Fans are still waiting patiently for the GTA 6 trailer to drop next month and with this, the first glimpses of the long-awaited follow-up to GTA V. However, if some rumors are to be believed then there is potentially a GTA 4 remaster which could be released ahead of the latest instalment in the popular Rockstar Games franchise.
It has been a decade since the last Grand Theft Auto game was released and fans are understandably desperate for a fresh game to experience. Given the length of time since the last title, there is little doubt that the expectation levels from fans are at an all-time high and Rockstar will want to make sure that these expectations are met. But could a GTA 4 remaster be a stopgap before the actual main event is released?
Would Players Prefer a GTA 4 Remaster Before the Launch of GTA 6?
According to a comment on social media site X from insider @JeffPulaski, the game would be a standard port much like what happened with Red Dead Redemption recently.
We should take these comments with a pinch of salt as that account was only created this month and has a substantially low following.
(1/2) Rockstar Games is going to announce Grand Theft Auto 4 remaster (it’s pretty much a port with enhancements, similar to RDR1) AND Grand Theft Auto 6 during 25th anniversary of the studio. “New” GTA 4 is going to be released before GTA 6.#GTA6 #GTA4 #GTA4REMASTER pic.twitter.com/tpj25zBKDx

However, if we look at the comments made by Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar’s parent company, then maybe this comment is not without merit. Take-Two previously confirmed that they had plans to re-release two previous titles in the fiscal year 2024 which ends in March. Given that Red Dead Redemption has already been confirmed, who is to say that the other is not GTA 4?
Given that the projected release for GTA 6 is sometime between 2024 and 2025 and looking more likely like the latter, the re-release of GTA 4 may be perfect timing for those fans who are desperately waiting to get their hands on a new GTA game.
GTA 4 is still one of the highest-rated titles in the franchise and at the time of release, it was said to have set a new benchmark for open-world games. Given that the game had to follow San Andreas, developers put in a substantial amount of work to elevate the experience to another level, and this is why the game is still loved to this day.
Fans will no doubt have differing views on whether they would prefer the latest GTA game over a remaster of GTA 4 but going by comments on social media site X, many are in favor of a remaster sooner rather than later.
“I dream about a GTA 4 remaster. That game was so underrated. I took that map for granted too” – @rockynico
All these re-releases of older GTAs and we never got the next-gen port of GTA 4. Give me it @RockstarGamesPs I’ll also take a remaster of Max Payne 3, thanks xx – @AdamNeeson
Some fans have gone further with their comments and suggest that the trailer which Rockstar will drop next month will be one for the GTA 4 remaster, rather than the upcoming GTA 6 game. If it was this case, then that would be such a slap in the face to fans and would be trolling at a whole new level.
With the length of time, fans have had to wait for a new GTA game, there is little surprise that rumors concerning the upcoming GTA 6 game have been everywhere and fans will no doubt have realized what is possibly fact of fiction at this stage. There are very few details from Rockstar at this stage and fans are hoping that the upcoming trailer may confirm or deny some of these rumors outright.
Whilst we don’t have any confirmation from Rockstar themselves as to whether there may be a GTA 4 remaster ahead of the release of GTA 6, fans can only speculate given the developments with Red Dead Redemption. However, it remains to be seen whether Grand Theft Auto fans would be happy with a straight port to current-gen consoles over an actual remaster if indeed this does come to fruition.
