Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon Is About to Be One of the Biggest Things on Netflix if Done Right

Right off the bat, Rebel Moon debuting on Netflix later this year, December 22 to be specific, promises more than just a movie. It is already confirmed that the movie will be coming in two parts. And if all the cards are played right, Netflix will be the gainer. Coming in at an estimated cost of $166 million, as deduced from California tax filings, this price tag for the venture can be seen as a great deal, averaging around $83 million for each installment. While the release date for the second part remains unconfirmed, Zack Snyder‘s intention is to have it follow quickly after the first installment.

While the initial part is geared towards family-friendly content, Snyder’s assurance of maintaining the same tone becomes less certain as the saga delves deeper into its narrative. Thus, the fellow producer in this project Eric Newman also revealed in an interview with Screen Rant,

“It’s a massive movie. I would sometimes drive on to set and I would look out in the distance and think like, “Could that possibly be part of our show?” And it always was. It’s the biggest thing I’ve ever done, and it’s really cool. I’m excited for people to see it. I think you’ll love it!”

To say the least, it is a very big deal for the streaming giant, and an opportunity to land a saga as big as Stranger Things. Thus, in the grand scheme of things, this endeavor presents an immensely thrilling opportunity for both the director and Netflix, only applicable if executed successfully.

Everything That Is Known About Rebel Moon’s Plot Till Now

Originally proposed as a potential Star Wars spin-off, the project took an unexpected turn when Disney acquired the Lucasfilm Empire in 2012. Nevertheless, Snyder’s prevailed and transformed his narrative into an entirely fresh space world, tailor-made for Netflix. As the Netflix summary says,

“Rebel Moon is the story of a peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy that comes under threat from the forces of a tyrannical regent named Balisarius. A young woman is then sent out to assemble a team of warriors from neighboring planets who can help them fight back.”

In essence, the narrative centers around Kora, once a part of the Imperium, the military of the corrupt Mother World. She sets forth on a journey of redemption, scouring the galaxy for fellow warriors who will stand alongside her to confront the might of the Mother World’s forces. Although it is about to get a lot more interesting from here on, no further details are revealed. Fans are excited to see how the story unfolds in the future.
