Brad Pitt’s character ‘One Punch’ Mickey in the film Snatch had to be dirty, smelly, and scruffy and the actor was willing to go the extra mile for the demands of the character. The character was part of a gypsy-like group of Irish travelers and Pitt decided not to wash himself to get into the skin of his character. Interestingly, old habits die hard for Pitt, who reportedly found a way around having to wash himself regularly.
When starring in the Quentin Tarantino film Inglourious Basterds, Pitt gave a tip to co-star Eli Roth on how to avoid taking a shower and still look fresh. It appears that the star has broken his personal hygiene code too many times for his roles.
Brad Pitt Continued To Follow One Unhygienic Habit From Snatch During This Tarantino Film
What started as a Method acting might have gone too far, as Brad Pitt often avoided taking a shower to play his movie characters. He first resorted to this disgusting habit to play the gypsy-like character Mickey in Guy Ritchie‘s Snatch. Almost a decade later, his co-star on Inglourious Basterds could confirm that he was following that old habit.
In the Quentin Tarantino film, Pitt and Eli Roth played Jewish American soldiers who plan to assassinate Hitler. Roth shared with PEOPLE that he received the most unhygienic advice from the Troy actor.
When Roth and Pitt came together for a close-up shot, Pitt told the actor about how he smelled badly. When Roth explained that he didn’t have time for a shower, Pitt went on to suggest that he use baby wipes. Roth told PEOPLE:
“After a scene, Brad had to get next to me for a close-up shot, and he said, ‘Damn, you’re ripe.’ I said, ‘I didn’t have time to shower.’ He said, ‘Baby wipes, man, baby wipes.’”
The Mr. & Mrs. Smith actor made it clear to the Hostel director that if he was sweating and didn’t have time to take a shower, he just needed to “take a baby wipe and rub it under your armpits.” While it was not the best personal hygiene tip that anyone could’ve asked for, Roth still found it a great tip.
Brad Pitt Explained Why He Had To Resort To This Disgusting Habit
While his habit started off as a dedication to the art, Brad Pitt had to resort to fewer showers due to his balancing life and work. At the time, he told Roth that he had to manage six very young kids who basically ruined any hygiene routines he had.
Pitt was committing to good films left and right, and he had to spend time with his kids whenever he was home. This meant that he couldn’t take a quick shower, whenever one of the kids peed on him. He told Roth (via PEOPLE):
“I got six kids. All you’ve got to do is just take them, a couple quick wipes under the pits. Man, I’m getting [peed] on all day. I don’t have time to take a shower.”
During an interview with Live with Kelly and Mark, actor Jason Priestley who was a roommate of Pitt shared that he could go a long time without showering. However, he explained that Pitt wasn’t as bad as his other roommate who was an absolute disaster (via Yahoo! News).
