While Disney has tried to maintain Star Wars‘ popularity with the help of several Disney+ series, the lack of a feature film can be felt. The fans were delighted to hear last October that screenwriters Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson will write a secret project on the future of the franchise. But in March this year, it was reported that the screenwriters are no longer associated with the movie. Now more reports suggest that they were not the only ones to leave the project.

What are the changes in the upcoming Star Wars movie?

Things haven’t been good for the Star Wars franchise after its Sequel Trilogy. The last installment of the Sequel Trilogy The Rise of Skywalker was the lowest-grossing project in the $51.8B franchise. It also garnered a very strong negative reception. This project also marked the hiatus of the franchise from making theatrical films for a while.

While many theatrical films by various directors such as Patty Jenkins, Kevin Feige, and Taika Waititi were shelved or left in uncertainty, the fandom expected something from this upcoming project. But things don’t look good for the movie as it is reported by insider Jeff Sneider in The Hot Mic podcast that an important actor also left the movie with Damon Lindelof.

While it was not officially confirmed why the existing screenwriters were replaced by Steven Knight, the issue of creative differences is reported by many sources. But the series of updates didn’t end here as the podcast host John Rocha added that he also got reports from his sources that John Boyega will return to the movie.

John Boyega who played Finn in the Sequel Trilogy is expected to make a comeback in this movie according to John Rocha. Boyega’s relationship with Star Wars hadn’t been very well after he openly admitted that being a fan of the franchise is far better than being an actor. But Rocha added that there had been a recent change in the tone of John Boyega regarding Star Wars which might hint towards his return.

Daisy Ridley’s Rey Skywalker is already reported to return in the movie but as per the story goes on, we might see someone else taking the lead in the movie but not her. According to recent scoops, John Boyega’s Finn might also take the lead. While everything is pretty mysterious yet, the ratings of Star Wars also show that the franchise needs a desperate comeback.

Disney+ shows like The Mandalorian, Andor, The Book of Bobba Fett, and others are trying to set up another universe. But the recent third season of the Pedro Pascal led The Mandalorian saw a drastic decline in viewership as compared to the previous seasons. All factors combined show that a well-made Star Wars movie can spark interest in the franchise among audiences again. Recently, it was known that the pre-production of the upcoming movie will begin in August with more information yet to be delivered.
