When it was announced that Stephen King’s The Dark Tower was about to get its own live-action film, fans couldn’t control their excitement. They were about to witness one of their favorite series come to life.
35 years after the release of the first book in the much-loved series, fans would get the chance to relish the magic of seeing their favorite characters. But fate had other plans for the Matthew McConaughey starrer.

The Dark Tower was a sore letdown for one and all. The faithful of the series could not channel an ounce of their devotion to the movie, which was plagued by a plethora of problems behind the screen. Fans were disappointed not only because of how bad the film was but also because they knew what it could have been.
Reports claim that after a run of poor test screenings, Sony had no option but to spend $6 million on re-shoots in order to breathe some life into the film. At the center of all these problems, stood Matthew McConaughey and Idris Elba, who were themselves a victim of shoddy management.
Idris Elba’s What if…?
The Dark Tower continues to be a sore spot in the Dallas Buyers’ Club and the Thor star’s largely successful careers. One must wonder whether or not they regret taking the role at all. What if they can’t help but think, “What if?…”
There is another ‘What if…’ though. Apparently, before casting Idris Elba as Roland Deschain, the role had been offered to Daniel Craig, Christian Bale, Viggo Mortensen, Javier Bardem, and Mads Mikkelsen. It was only at a later stage that the 50-year-old was considered for the role. Fate works in mysterious ways…
