Martin Campbell’s Casino Royale not only saved the dying James Bond franchise but also launched Daniel Craig as the new 007, and Eva Green as the Bond girl. The actors and Campbell engaging in a journey was one of the most extraordinary parts of the film’s creation.
But at times, filming can be overwhelming and scary. Something that Eva Green experienced during her appearance in the 2006 sequel, Casino Royale. But fortunately, she had Daniel Craig by her side to pamper her and ease her nervousness. Thus, during an interview, Green fondly reflected upon her work experience with Craig.
Eva Green Was Initially Nervous About Her James Bond Role
Reintroducing the already-established world of James Bond wasn’t easy for Martin Campbell. Especially after the way the franchise started losing its fanbase and viewership. But the director did it anyway, with Casino Royale. Campbell not only saved the franchise’s grace but also introduced Daniel Craig as the new 007.
Along came Eva Green as the Bond girl for the 2006 sequel. Thereafter, with such a phenomenal cast, it became easy for Martin Campbell to bring out the essence of James Bond, all over again. But unfortunately, it wasn’t as easy for the cast, as compared to Campbell. Evidently, Daniel Craig and his co-star Green were both truly scared of their new experience.
Eva Green seemingly had intense pressure since her performance as Bond woman Vesper Lynd was just extremely crucial. And paired up with Daniel Craig who had the pressure of leading the movie, Green got scared of tackling the scenes. But eventually, overcoming all the challenges, the actress delivered an incredible performance.
Daniel Craig Pampered Eva Green And Eased Her Fear
Speaking with The Times in 2010, Eva Green reflected on her time when she filmed the 2006 James Bond sequel, Casino Royale alongside Daniel Craig. Discussing how she was initially scared of messing things up, the actress discussed how she overcame her fear. Crediting Craig for most of it, Green stated how the actor helped her ease her nervousness.
“He was a very cool Bond, very raw. He’s very paternal actually. He really looked after me, and he was wanting to do something different with Bond, which I think he did. I was a bit scared at the beginning – but it was a good Bond and it made me bankable – money, money!”
Discussing how he pampered her throughout filming and looked after her, Eva Green noted their onscreen and offscreen chemistry. Becoming good friends thereafter, the duo delivered an incredible performance in Casino Royale. But then, while Daniel Craig became the face of the franchise, Green left the Bond series after the 2006 movie.
Now after years of committed collaboration with the James Bond franchise, even Daniel Craig quit his reign after his 2021’s No Time to Die.
