Daniel Craig’s Spectre Co-star Andrew Scott on His Max Denbigh Role

Known for his roles in Pride, His Dark Materials, and 1917, Andrew Scott believes that what he played in Spectre is not something that belongs to his territory.

While speaking with GQ, Scott said that he himself thinks that he was not that good in the movie. He said:

If I’m honest, it’s not a territory that I feel like I would want to go over again. Now I know who I am a little bit more, I feel like the work that I’m just interested in doing is more in the grey areas. I suppose it’s just that I didn’t think… I just maybe wasn’t that good in it.”

At the Baftas recently someone was like, ‘Oh, you’re the hot priest from Fleabag, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge is writing the Bond film, will you play the villain?’ I thought, ‘Didn’t they see me in Spectre?’ That’s showbusiness! So, no more villains for me for a while.”

Spectre became a blockbuster hit, having gross earnings of $880 million worldwide.

Andrew Scott Thinks Being ‘A Little Intimidated’ In His James Bond Movie Role

He said in an interview with Vanity Fair:

I found it difficult to be in that film. I think I could’ve just been a bit better. I think I allowed myself to be a little intimidated by the budget and the history of the franchise, and I don’t think I attempted enough to be original.”

He continued:

I think I was maybe just not very confident, and one thing that I’ve definitely learned since then is that it doesn’t matter what the budget of a movie is. The same thing matters, it’s just simply about really good stories and stuff. It’s just to remember that, as an actor, the space between action and cut is exactly the same on a small budget movie, as it is a huge budget film. So to sort of attempt to still be relaxed and to experiment, I think to make a mistake and to make a fool of yourself is kind of important.”

Scott most recently acted with Billie Piper from Doctor Who and Bella Ramsey from Game of Thrones in Lena Dunham’s medieval fantasy movie Catherine Called Birdy. His next movie is All of Us Strangers to be released on 22 December this year.
