Daniel Day-Lewis’s career has been a source of inspiration for many actors who came after him, and he is considered one of the greatest actors ever in Hollywood history. He is one of the rare actors who have earned three Oscars throughout his acting career with his films My Left Foot, There Will be Blood, and Lincoln.
His last film was Paul Thomas Anderson’s 2017 film Phantom Thread. The actor announced his retirement from acting after the film. However, the revered actor seems to be making a comeback to cinemas with a maverick director to remind fans of his brilliance.
Martin Scorsese Teases Cinematic Reunion With Daniel Day-Lewis
Daniel Day-Lewis‘s acting prowess is second to none, and he went out on top with 2017’s Phantom Thread along with three Oscars in his kitty. The actor has been retired since 2018 and has been living a quiet life ever since. Recently, Day-Lewis made a surprising appearance at the National Board of Review Awards, where he honored Martin Scorsese with the Best Director Award.
Day-Lewis has already worked with Scorsese twice in the past with his films The Age of Innocence and Gangs of New York. Scorsese, in his acceptance speech, thanked the actor for his generosity and stated that working with the actor on the two films were the greatest experiences of his career.
The director also teased a reunion film, where he could maybe bring Day-Lewis out of retirement, He said, (via Discussing Film)
“Thank you, Daniel. To receive this honor presented by Daniel is just an honor in itself. We did two films together and it’s one of the greatest experiences of my life, I must say. Maybe there’s time for one more. Maybe! He’s the best.”
If this turns out to be true, audiences will be blessed with another cinematic masterpiece created by the two legendary icons of cinema. It remains to be seen whether Scorsese was just joking around or whether he really brings back the actor back to films.

“I was a teenager when I discovered Martin’s work. With a light of his own making, he illuminated unknown worlds that pulsed with a dangerous, irresistible energy. Worlds that were mysterious to me and utterly enthralling. He illuminated a vast, beautiful landscape of what is possible in film.
One of the greatest joys and most unexpected privileges of my life was to find myself one day working with him. I’m grateful to the National Board of Review for so justly recognizing the supreme, inimitable artistry of this man. To every person who works in the crucible of the imagination, he is a living treasure as a man and as a filmmaker I love and revere.”
Scorsese has already started work on his next film (as he told The LA Times), which will be an adaptation of the book A Life of Jesus by writer Shūsaku Endō. With the director also recently teasing Day-Lewis’ comeback, the actor may end up playing Jesus Christ in the upcoming film.
