Our favorite lawyer/superhero is soon going to be returning to the screens with Daredevil: Born Again. Fans are super excited to see Charlie Cox once again take on the role of Matt Murdock aka Daredevil as he makes his Marvel Cinematic Universe solo debut. The excitement is quite justified as fans had been protesting against the cancellation of the Netflix original Daredevil series for some time.

However, with the excitement comes some worries as well. First and foremost, fans are worried the series might not be as gory as its Netflix counterpart. The next concern is that while a few actors are returning to play their respective roles, other known and loved characters might be recast. Well, the latter has already begun to happen as Ayelet Zurer who played Vanessa Fisk in the series is being replaced by Sandrine Holt.

It was revealed some time ago that actress Sandrine Holt would be part of the ensemble and will play the love interest of either of the lead characters. Now, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Holt will be playing Vanessa Fisk, the significant other of Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin. The report reads,

“Other actors on the call sheet include Michael Gandolfini, Margarita Levieva, and Sandrine Holt, the latter of whom is playing Vanessa Fisk, the wife of Fisk.”

This might be a hard pill to swallow especially given the fact that Mr. Fisk himself is going to be played by the original actor, Vincent D’Onofrio. The recasting marks the end of an era for actress Ayelet Zurer who brought the character of Vanessa to life in Daredevil in all three seasons of the Netflix series. Since this is the first recasting of roles in Daredevil: Born Again, here’s what Twitter has to say about it:

Holt is known for her work in House of Cards, Better Call Saul, and Hostages and has also been a part of Mutant X which is based on the Marvel comics. While we are surely going to miss seeing Zurer in the role, it cannot hurt to give Holt a chance, can it?

While it’s old news that Charlie Cox and D’Onofrio will be reprising their roles in Daredevil: Born Again, fans are excited to learn that actor Jon Bernthal will be returning to play Nick Castle aka The Punisher. This means that Bernthal will be reprising his anti-hero role for the first time, ever since the cancellation of Netflix’s The Punisher in 2019.

On the other hand, two of the most beloved characters from the series, Karen and Foggy, played by Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson respectively, are rumored to not be returning for the Disney+ series. Since Cox’s Matt Murdock is just one-third of the duo, keeping Karen and Foggy away from the series seems like the wrong choice.

Filming for Daredevil: Born Again began just recently in New York. For now, there is no confirmation about whether the series will pick up from where the Netflix series ended or it will start a completely new story. The first episode of the 18-part series will be directed by Michael Cuesta. Since filming has just begun, there is no exact date for the release.

Daredevil: Born Again will release in the Spring of 2024. Meanwhile, you can stream Daredevil on Netflix.
