Just when Marvel fans thought they would see it all, a new development has woven a web of possibilities for the much-anticipated Spider-Man 4. Fans would somehow be upset to learn that Charlie Cox’s Daredevil and Iron Man would not be collaborating, but instead, Drew Goddard is reportedly planning to pair the Man Without Fear with the magnetic Tom Holland’s Spider-Man. How? The Daredevil creator is reportedly one of Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios’ choices to direct Spider-Man 4 if Jon Watts does not return.

There has been a growing urge from fans for Daredevil to join forces with the Avengers ever since Cox made his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Matt Murdock. Cox was actually looking forward to working with other Marvel actors, particularly veteran ones such as Iron Man. However, since the legendary hero played by Robert Downey Jr. died in Avengers: Endgame, this seems to be less of a possibility.

Drew Goddard is Eyeing to Helm Spider-Man 4?

Fans have been treated to powerful and breathtaking storytelling by director and screenwriter Drew Goddard, who created the Netflix series Daredevil. From The Cabin in the Woods to Bad Times at the El Royale, his unique style of genre-bending storytelling has won praise from critics. The latest rumors suggest that Goddard will be contributing his experience to Spider-Man 4, upending the status quo by teaming Daredevil and Spider-Man rather than Iron Man.

Daniel Richtman recently reported that the original Daredevil showrunner is Marvel Studios’ top choice to direct Spider-Man 4 if Jon Watts does not return.

This is understandable. There was a report earlier, as we found out from EW, that Watts wanted out of the MCU after directing the first three Spider-Man films. He declared in a statement:

“Making three Spider-Man films was an incredible and life-changing experience for me. I’m eternally grateful to have been a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for seven years. I’m hopeful we’ll work together again, and I can’t wait to see the amazing vision for Fantastic Four brought to life.”

Well, Daredevil will probably team up Daredevil with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man instead of Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man if he is directing Spider-Man 4.

On the other hand, Holland has remained silent about whether he intends to don the Spider-Man suit going forward. He made hints about his uncertain future with the franchise in an interview, telling Deadline:

“There definitely was a sense for me, as an actor, that this was the last time that I could potentially don the suit, so a lot of that emotion came from the act of saying goodbye, which is one of the biggest themes throughout this film”.

In the meantime, he told Entertainment Weekly:

“We’ve had conversations about the potential future of Spider-Man, but at the moment they are conversations. We don’t know what the future looks like.”

Holland is therefore anticipated to reprise his role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in Spider-Man 4.

Charlie Cox Wanted His Daredevil To Team Up With Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man

During his Wales Comic Con (via Geektown) appearance, Charlie Cox, who portrayed Matt Murdock/Daredevil in Marvel Studios’ Daredevil series, revealed which Avenger he hopes his character will eventually collaborate with. He said:

“I was actually catching up on some of the comics recently, and I was reading one from 2020 where Daredevil and Iron Man have a bit of a run-in together, which is quite fun. I was thinking that would be very cool.”

Even though it is everyone’s dream to see Iron Man and Daredevil together, Robert Downey Jr.’s legendary character passed away in Avengers: Endgame. Although Marvel has the power to revive any character if they so desire, Cox believes it is still possible. Additionally, he stated:

“I don’t think that’s possible now because he’s dead, isn’t he? But you know, it’s Marvel, who knows. For a personal reason, I think that would be cool to have that little moment.”

At this point, Cox’s desire to work with Downey Jr. might seem unrealistic, but, as he stated, only Marvel would know. We hope that as the Multiverse Saga goes on, Daredevil will be one of the many characters that get more attention. If so, that means that there will be more opportunities for the character to be highlighted in the future.
