Despite his short exposure in the 2016 Suicide Squad movie, fans still remember when David Harbour portrayed Dexter Tolliver, a National Security Advisor of the US government. The movie came out the same year as Harbour’s other project, Stranger Things, where he rose to prominence as Jim Hopper.

Dexter Tolliver’s part in the Suicide Squad movie was nothing but brief, and although he supported Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller on her plans, Harbour did nothing magnificent in the film. Now, the actor is joining a new DC project that would certainly put him in the spotlight.

Fans Share Speculations Around David Harbour’s Character In Creature Commandos and His Role In Suicide Squad

David Harbour has been cast in DC’s newest animated series Creature Commandos as the voice of Eric Frankenstein. Like Suicide Squad, the team is sent on dangerous missions, but the twist is that all of them are monsters and supernatural creatures instead of villains.

The cast will also feature Indira Varma as the Bride of Frankenstein, Alan Tudyk as Doctor Phosphorous, Maria Bakalova as Ilana Rostovic, Zoe Chao as Nina Mazursky, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag, Sr., and Sean Gunn as both G.I. Robot and Weasel.

Harbour’s role in Creature Commandos is a major improvement from his previous job at DCEU. Furthermore, some fans speculate that the actor’s upcoming role as Frankenstein was actually in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad. Many have also postulated their theories that it is just a recast. Regardless, here are some of their tweets:

While some of the tweets seemed like no-brainer theories, they still served as proof that the audiences never forgot Harbour was in 2016’s Suicide Squad despite his short screen time.

Another reason this opportunity looks great for Harbour is the fact that Peter Safran, co-CEO of DC Studios, has previously assured fans that the newly revamped DC Universe will be consistent in their casting choices. It simply means that whoever they cast in a live-action project will be the same actor in the animated version or vice-versa. He also told Collider:

So there’s no audience confusion, there are multiple people playing the same role. This is the story. In animation, we’re actually trying to cast the voices of the actors we want to play them in real life.”

It is easy to see that there is already a systematic approach happening within the new DC Universe under the new management of James Gunn and Peter Safran. Creature Commandos will be penned by Gunn himself, making sure that it will be as comic book accurate as possible.

The surge of enthusiasm towards the new projects of DC serves as a testament that the enterprise is finally rising from the ashes of the old regime. With a bigger role this time, Harbour is finally getting his much-deserved break in the world of DC. The actor will have a hectic year, too, as he prepares for his upcoming return as Red Guardian in Marvel’s Thunderbolts.

Creature Commandos is set to premiere on HBO Max in 2024.
