The DC character of Nightwing (played by Brenton Thwaites in Titans) has always been a fan favorite and fans have been clamoring for a proper live-action film featuring the character. There were various rumors about the supposed developments of a Nightwing film project that never came to fruition. One that looked promising was that of Chris McKay and his desire to work on a potential Nightwing project, way back in 2017. Following James Gunn’s taking over the leadership of DC, McKay was even more hopeful of his wish coming true. Unfortunately, the project seems to be dead according to a credible source.
The Nightwing Project is not Moving Forward Anymore
According to Umberto Gonzalez, a reporter for The Wrap, the Chris McKay Nightwing project does not seem to be in the interest of DC head honcho James Gunn, who exclaimed that the project is dead.

Fans were clamoring for Titans star Brenton Thwaites to be cast in this potential DC project as they were impressed with his performance in Titans playing Dick Grayson. Many of them took to X to express their desire for Thwaites to be cast if the project ever came to fruition.

Fans and their hopes of seeing Thwaites in a potential DC Nightwing film have been squashed according to Gonzalez’s tweets and can only hope for it to become a reality in an unforeseen future.
Brenton Thwaites himself is Interested in a Nightwing Film
Brenton Thwaites has expressed his desire to portray Nightwing in a potential film. With James Gunn’s soft reboot of the franchise, he hoped that he could be a part of the new DC that was being created. He expressed his desires in an interview with SFX magazine (via CBR) stating,
“It’s not up to me, it’s up to Warner Bros. Things at Warner Bros are changing quite drastically. Their next slate of films could be really exciting. We just have to wait and see. It would be a great honor to bring Nightwing to the big screen.”
Fans including Thwaites himself will be disappointed to know about the cancellation of the potential DC film which could have opened up exciting possibilities for the character.
A Possibility in a Distant Future
Even though James Gunn’s current plans for his new DCU do not seem to include Nightwing, one can hope that the character will certainly make an appearance in the future of his vision regarding DC. With Batman being a part of his current plans, there certainly will be an appearance and inclusion of Nightwing somewhere down the line.
