Two superhero movie production giants DCU and MCU have been in constant battle and their fans also find themselves on a battlefield of debate. While DCU has maintained its dark and gritty style in most of its movies, MCU has adopted a light-hearted approach.

The accelerated success of MCU movies, as many would argue, is primarily because of the fun, humor, and blend of the comic punch that comes with the package. DCU’s dark thematic atmosphere also has a wide fanbase as Zack Snyder has created his own Universe but it is pretty limited.

The Ever-Increasing DC Concern

DC movies have been in the dark similar to their thematic style for quite some time now. The studio has been trying to regain financial strength through the box office with big releases like The Shazaam, Black Adam, and The Flash but all these movies failed to save the sinking ship of DC. With the release of Blue Beetle with a character never appeared on screen before created hype but the early review has concerned the fans.

Many believed that DC has attempted to spice up their content with some comic elements similar to Marvel as can be seen in The Shazaam. Still, the core of most of the DC movies remained dark, even the outskirt movies like Joker and Matt Reeves’ The Batman. But these outskirt movies have achieved astonishing success while mainstream DC movies have been witnessing constant failure.

DC Co-head James Gunn’s transition from Marvel to DC is another key factor to note down and it raised a critical question whether Gunn will bring back the Marvel of the Marvel Studios into DC. But so far, Gunn’s magic wand is not working. Now, with the release of the studio’s most recent Xolo Maridueña starrer Blue Beetle DC would try to establish the character hoping for some much-needed success.

DC has been attempting to bounce back with almost every release but this time, the new take on the origin story, the freshness of the story, and the characters of Blue Beetle could lead to the door of success. So far, the critical responses are in favor of the movie as some critics have stated that the new character worked like a charm while a POC Culture critic called it the “favorite post-(Christopher) Nolan DC film.” But fans are not quite so sure about the positive responses as most are concerned with the attempted humor in the DC movies and the absence of Zack Snyder.

Some fans are still grieving Snyder’s absence from DC and seeking out the restoration of Snyderverse.

But Blue Beetle’s comic punches are concerning as believed by some fans.

One user wrote on X about critics’ reviews which, as they believe, are not always reliable.

Another user is concerned about the use of rap songs.

One user condemned DC for allegedly copying Marvel.

As the hype and concerns collide, the wide public reception of the movie would be interesting to see. Also, DC can not afford a setback and if the movie lifts the studio from the earlier failure, the future of the character in the studio would be solid.

Blue Beetle will hit the theatres on 18 August 2023.
