The Ryan Reynolds starrer Deadpool 3 is one of the most awaited films of next year as fans finally get to see the merc with the mouth make his MCU debut. The film also marks the official merging of the X-Men franchise with the MCU, opening a wide range of opportunities for cameos and storylines.
While Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine coming back from retirement for the film, many other cameos have been surfacing the internet, including Jennifer Garner’s Elektra and James Marsden’s Cyclops. However, director Shawn Levy put a rest to the rumors saying that many of them were untrue, without specifying which ones.
Deadpool 3 Is Rumored To Have Multiple Cameos
Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool 3 will officially be a part of the MCU after Disney, Marvel Entertainment’s parent company, acquired Fox Studios, which had the rights to the X-Men franchise till 2019. The film will be the first solo X-Men film in the MCU as their existence was already hinted at with Namor in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and The Marvels.
One of the highlights of the film is said to be Hugh Jackman’s Logan a.k.a Wolverine returning after six years. Jackman was last seen as Wolverine in James Mangold’s Logan, after which he announced that he would be retiring from the role, which he played for seventeen years. Wolverine and Deadpool had never teamed up in the Deadpool films.
While Deadpool’s usual team namely Vanessa, Colossus, and Negasonic Teenage Warhead are confirmed to return for the threequel, there have been rumors that Jennifer Garner would reprise her role as Elektra from the 2000s Daredevil and Elektra films. There have also been rumors of other X-Men and MCU characters making an appearance.
Deadpool 3 is set to be a multiverse story and hence, fans have speculated that many characters or its variants such as Patrick Stewarts’ Professor X and Ian McKellan’s Magneto could make a cameo. James Marsden’s Cyclops and Famke Jenssen’s Jean Grey are also rumored to appear. There has been strong buzz about Taylor Swift also making a cameo.
Shawn Levy Addresses Rumors About Multiple Cameos in Deadpool 3
Deadpool 3 is directed by Shawn Levy, who is known for the films Free Guy and Night at the Museum, and as the executive producer of Stranger Things. The director was in the middle of shooting the film when production was halted due to the SAG-AFTRA strikes. With the strikes now lifted, Levy is hoping to go back to production in full swing to make it in time for their July 26 release date.
In an interview with Wired in October, Shawn Levy addressed many of the rumors surrounding the film. He spoke about the support he received from Marvel and Kevin Feige for sticking with the R-rated format of Deadpool as well as the meta-references the character brings. He also addressed the cameos that have been surfacing on the internet.
“Ryan and I spend a lot of time together in real life, scrolling Twitter and reading the daily rumors. I feel like the number of cameos in Deadpool 3 is rumored to be in the eighties, and it ranges from Taylor Swift to Jennifer Garner. I love that there’s so much misinformation out there, no one can tell what might be real.”
In the interview, he ended the topic by neither confirming nor denying the cameos, specifically Taylor Swift, who is supposed to be Alison Blaire a.k.a the Dazzler.
