Hollywood stars Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds have long been engaged in a playful feud and are often seen teasing each other on social media. And with the duo finally pairing up for the upcoming film Deadpool & Wolverine, fans have been anticipating seeing their dynamic play out on the silver screen as they reprise their respective X-Men role.
Despite their banter, Jackman hasn’t yet seized upon a particular opportunity to jest with his Deadpool 3 co-star. While Jackman does most of his own stunts as Wolverine, Reynolds has opted out of doing his action sequences. Surprisingly, Jackman doesn’t use this contrast to poke fun at his friend and co-star.
Hugh Jackman’s Surprising Omission in Teasing Ryan Reynolds
Deadpool & Wolverine stars, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s fake feud has been loaded with countless jabs exchanged between the two actors over the years. And fans have enjoyed it all, from the witty nods in the Deadpool film series to their humorous banter on social media.
However, Jackman may have an edge in this friendly competition due to his commitment to performing his own action sequences. Since donning the adamantium claws in the first X-Men movie, Jackman has wholeheartedly embraced the role of Wolverine, maintaining his physique meticulously over the years.
He’s been known to undertake rigorous training regimes to embody the character authentically and has claimed to follow a similar routine for his comeback in Deadpool 3. Along with that, he has also been keen on doing most of his own stunts as Wolverine, a trait that often led to injuries during productions.
During filming for the 2013 movie The Wolverine, he even feared he had broken his neck, prompting a concerned confrontation with his ex-wife about the risks involved. And the actor has reportedly opted for a stunt double instead of doing such daring action sequences himself in recent years.
Why Ryan Reynolds Does Not Perform His Own Stunts?
Prior to Deadpool, Ryan Reynolds starred in a number of action movies and has opted to perform his own stunts. However, despite his similar commitment to his most iconic role, Reynolds has decided against doing his own stunts due to the physical toll accumulated over the years.
He shared in an Instagram post, saying that his “body’s been pretty f**ked from years of stunts.” He also acknowledged the challenges of recovery while expressing gratitude towards his trainer Don Saladino. Reynolds has also opened up about an injury he suffered while filming the 2013 film Safe House.
“I broke a couple of vertebrae in my neck,” he shared as per CinemaBlend. He recalled having multiple consultations with his doctor who advised him to utilize stunt doubles. “So now I use four different guys that come with me,” he said.
In an interview with Variety, he stressed the importance of personally tackling as much of the stunt work as possible. However, he also acknowledged the need to rely on trained professionals for particularly risky or challenging stunts.
Deadpool & Wolverine is set to release on July 26, 2024.
