Hugh Jackman is one the nicest A-listers in the industry. He is known for starring in some of the best movies of all time, which brought him so much fame.
But there was a movie that has proven to be the worst movie he has ever done in his life. The film is Movie 43, which is his lowest-rated movie on Rotten Tomatoes, with a hilarious rating of 4%.
It is an anthology comedy that revolves around a washed-up producer as he pitches absurd storylines that involve some of Hollywood’s biggest stars. Movie 43 is also labeled as “the worst ever” because, according to many critics, its storyline and production don’t make any sense.
Besides critics, Hugh Jackman also has some sentiments over his worst movie, which he spilled out in the form of advising his younger self. But at the same time, he also told his younger self about the future success that he would have never imagined initially.
Hugh Jackman’s Advice For His Future Self
Hugh Jackman, too, had some of the feelings of many critics regarding his 2013 film Movie 43. In 2014, the actor interviewed his younger self for Yahoo to promote X-Men: Days of Future Past.
During the interview, he gave his past self some advice about the future, including what he could expect in the coming years (especially in relation to the X-Men franchise). Jackman made a playful remark and said:
“I know that sounds really bizarre, that you will still be playing Wolverine 14 years from now, and it’s going to reunite all the actors that you’re about to work with on X-Men. You’re also going to work with a bunch of younger actors, some of which have just been born. I know that’s going to sound very strange, but yes, they’re all going to be very young, and they’re all going to remind you on a daily basis that they watched you in this movie you’re about to do. Don’t hit them.”
The actor told his younger self about his future success. The Hollywood star (now 54) landed his breakthrough role as Logan/Wolverine in the X-Men film series from 2000 to 2017.
The role earned him the Guinness World Record for “longest career as a live-action Marvel character” because he has portrayed the Marvel mutant Wolverine seven times since taking the role. Jackman held the record until May 2022.
After this, he warned himself to avoid films like Movie 43, quipping — especially when they come to you with an idea about “putting t*sticles around your neck.”
Hugh Jackman Warned Himself to Steer Clear of Films Like Movie 43
In the same interview with Yahoo, after giving himself a doze of future success, Hugh Jackman also advised against starring in Movie 43. He indicated that it was not a film he would recommend being a part of, even though he had enjoyed great success in his career. He went on to say:
“When they come to you with an idea of putting t*sticles around your neck, and being part of this hilarious ensemble of some of the funniest movies of all time, don’t believe them. You can take the testicles, because you use them quite a lot at parties and it actually gets a good laugh, but the movie you could do without.”
Movie 43 received overwhelmingly negative reviews, with one reviewer on IMDb describing its humor as “something kindergarten students would make up.” Another described it as just a bunch of random skits that seem to be going “without punchline and purpose.”
Jackman also ranked The Fountain and The Prestige as two of his best films, while Movie 43 was easily his worst. Despite the film’s poor reception, it seems the star found a cool party trick to avoid a criticizing movie stain on his resume.
Watch Movie 43 on Prime Video.
