The trailer for Deadpool 3, which now has the new name Deadpool & Wolverine, revealed much about the highly anticipated movie. Most notably, it revealed Deadpool would be apprehended and recruited by the Time Variance Authority, last seen in the Loki television series on Disney+.
That confirms what everyone already knew: Deadpool is coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and he’ll be joined by Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, who’ll presumably assist the Merc with a Mouth in his mission.
Another reveal was that of a bald character, who many fans assume is Cassandra Nova. In the comic books, Cassandra Nova is the genetic twin sister of Charles Xavier. Born a “mummudrai” – a parasitic life-form residing on the astral plane – she’s mighty, possessing telepathic and telekinetic abilities, the power of premonition, immunity to magic, and more.
A recent theory about Deadpool & Wolverine suggests she’ll play a massively important part in the movie and the wider MCU, causing havoc and requiring the eponymous Deadpool and Wolverine to intervene.
What Is This Deadpool 3 Theory?
The theory suggests Cassandra Nova will telepathically control variants of MCU characters from the X-Men movie universe, similar to how Wanda Maximoff “dreamwalks” into other versions of herself in 2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, to trigger an incursion and Deadpool and Wolverine are tasked by the TVA to kill the characters she is manipulating.
It even elaborates with some fun examples of characters she might manipulate and how the two characters with super-healing might deal with them.
The first example is Nova controlling a variant of Captain America during the Chitauri invasion in 2012’s The Avengers. The super-soldier attempts to create an incursion by taking the Quinjet and flying it into Loki’s portal generator. However, Deadpool and Wolverine kill him by fighting dirtier than he does, completing their mission.
The next part of the theory suggests Wolverine will fight a controlled version of the Hulk during the Battle of Sokovia in 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. It describes a potential battle between the pair in a snowy forest, with the Hulk getting the better of Wolverine and turning back into Bruce Banner. At that point, it’s revealed Nova only has control over the Hulk half of Banner’s personality, so turning back into Banner suppresses the controlled Hulk.
It also suggests Deadpool and Wolverine fight a controlled version of Thor during 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok. The mighty demigod proves a brutal and bloody test for the pair, but they manage to overcome and defeat him after a vicious battle.
Finally, the theory suggests Nova controls a variant of Thanos – the big bad of the Infinity Saga – on his home planet of Titan during 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War. This version of Thanos has already killed the Avengers, and when Deadpool confronts him, Thanos is cocky due to wielding several Infinity Stones. Deadpool’s first idea is to bring out Cable to bewilder the Mad Titan, as Josh Brolin plays both characters, but Cable’s similar voice merely amuses Thanos. Wolverine then launches a surprise attack and removes Thanos’ gloved hand, only for the villain to reveal he was using the Reality Stone to create an illusion. This triggers Deadpool’s final plan, revealing he’d secretly brought along an Ant-Man variant. Ant-Man enters Thanos via his rear orifice and grows to a giant size, bursting the Mad Titan from the inside.
What Will the Outcome Be?
If this theory is accurate, it’s difficult to predict precisely how the movie will end, but it’ll inevitably impact the wider MCU significantly.
The first likely outcome is that Deadpool and Wolverine complete their mission, only for their universe to be destroyed in the process, giving them an excuse to become permanent residents of the MCU.
The second likely outcome is that Cassandra Nova creates enough incursions to severely fracture the multiverse, triggering the events of a future movie like Avengers: Secret Wars. Either way, it sounds incredible, and fans should look forward to seeing how things turn out.
