Deadpool & Wolverine has finally hit the theatres after testing fans’ patience for so, so long, and it hasn’t failed to deliver up to the mark either. Not only did it bring forward some of the most unexpected cameos, but it also perfectly dropped some really clever fourth-wall-breaking punchlines.

One of these very punchlines saw Jennifer Garner, who returned to reprise her iconic role of Elektra from the Daredevil saga, cracking a cruel joke about Ben Affleck’s Daredevil. Or, perhaps, it was more of a jab towards Affleck himself, who is currently dealing with divorce rumors with his current wife Jennifer Lopez.
Deadpool & Wolverine: Jennifer Garner Takes a Subtle Dig at Ben Affleck
As fans must already know by now, out of all the surprising cameos that Deadpool & Wolverine promised and perfectly delivered, Jennifer Garner‘s return as Elektra Natchios after almost two decades was perhaps the most satisfying one. But while Natchios returned, so did her sarcasm as well.
This was evident from the subtle dig the actress took at her ex-husband and former Daredevil portrayer in the 2003 movie, Ben Affleck.

In the movie, there is a sequence where Ryan Reynolds‘ Wade Wilson reflects on some of the ex-Marvel characters from the cinematic universe who couldn’t survive the wasteland world and expresses his condolences to them.
During this, he also mentions Affleck’s Matt Murdock, who appeared in the critically panned, first and last solo movie on the character ever made: Daredevil from 2003. But at his mention, everyone faces a rather abrupt response from Garner’s character, who says, with regards to him being gone:
Oh, it’s fine.
As embarrassing as this must have been for Affleck to watch, this brutal joke hits one too many spots. First off, the 51-year-old actor’s Murdock didn’t receive the finest of reviews from critics and general audiences, and he himself confessed to wanting to undo that movie if anything.

Then there’s the fact that Garner and Affleck were actually married in real life as well for almost a decade, between 2009 and 2018. The two also share three kids together, i.e. Violet, 18, Seraphina, 15, and Samuel, 12. So, her claiming “it’s okay” to not have him around anymore may have been personal as well.
Moreover, this cheeky dig also comes at a time that is seemingly quite hard for the Gone Girl star, considering how he is also dealing with divorce rumors with his current wife, Jennifer Lopez.
Meanwhile, Ben Affleck is Struggling with Divorce Rumors with Jennifer Lopez
On the one hand, while Garner may have won over the spotlight with the playful joke she delivered on Affleck’s former character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Ben Affleck is, on the other hand, surrounded by rumors about his current marriage seemingly failing as well.

According to insider reports from Daily Mail (via HOLA!), Affleck and Lopez were ready to “throw in the towel” since the “divorce papers are done and ready to be filed.”
These rumors were further fueled when, at Lopez’s recent Bridgerton-themed 55th birthday party, Affleck was noticeably absent. She instead had her teenage son Max by her side, whom she shares with her ex-husband Marc Anthony.
However, before finally making the decision, “Jen and Ben agreed it is best to take some time apart so they can really figure out what it is that they want.” That said, for now, they are, more or less, navigating through their relationship rather than making a haste decision they may regret later.
All of this being put out there, judging from the sticky situation he is currently in, Garner’s comment may either sting him to the core or let him have a good laugh about it. Who knows? Perhaps Ben Affleck might be happier than what fans are assuming.
