Well, in the movie, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman pay homage to a particular Wolverine storyline through a little glimpse of a man. Fans think that this could work out very well in favor of Jackman.
Deadpool & Wolverine Pay Homage To A Wolverine Storyline
Yeah… even though you probably could read that spoiler alert line above this line, here’s a little spoiler warning for ya. Deadpool & Wolverine was released recently and the world finally got what it wanted.

In the movie, a man in a white tuxedo is seen facing the casino table. This character was actually a homage to one of Wolverine’s most iconic storylines back when he wasn’t that famous in the comic books.
In the MCU, it is found out that that character is a Wolverine variant called “Patch”. In the comic books, however, things are a little more detailed than the movie. As per Marvel Comics (via SlashFilm), the character of Patch was created during the earlier days of Wolverine on paper.
With his healing powers, Wolverine got into a fight and started wearing an eye patch until his eye healed. During that time, however, Wolverine goes into the fictional city of Madripoor which is an underworld city run by gangsters and dons (kind of like Gotham without the Batman).
When Wolverine’s work is done, he decides to stay in Madripoor because it’s his kind of place. Donning a black sleeveless cloth while fighting, Wolverine wears the iconic eye patch every time he gets into a fight.
This iconic character was referenced in Deadpool & Wolverine and fans think that it would be a great storyline for a mini-series starring Hugh Jackman as Patch. However, the bigger question that remains is whether Hugh Jackman would portray the role of Wolverine again or not.
Will Hugh Jackman Return To His Iconic Role?
In 2017, Jackman announced that he would be retiring from the role after Logan was released in theaters. With his character dying at the end, Jackman never thought that he would return until Deadpool & Wolverine.

The fate of Hugh Jackman’s return to the role again remains up to fate. However, a 2014 interview might have some answers that the world is looking for.
Sitting for an interview with SlashFilm, Jackman was asked back in 2014 whether there is any possibility of him returning as Wolverine in the vastness of the cinematic universe. Here’s what The Greatest Showman actor had for an answer:
I’ll probably end up doing it… “Shut up, Bub!” “Who said Bub?” “I said Bub…” Who knows? I’m fully aware that people will hear [this Days of Future Past] idea and think, ‘Ah, they’ve just come up with a way to bring everybody together’ right?
The context here was whether Jackman would like to play a Wolverine variant at some point in the future. Although the interview is almost 10 years old, Jackman’s love for the character might spark some hope among fans.
Deadpool & Wolverine received a rating of 8.3/10 on IMDB and a whopping 80% on Rotten Tomatoes upon release.
With Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds in the lead roles, the iconic film is currently screening in theaters across the world.
