Deathbound is another Soulslike but with a VERY Unique Twist

Featured Video

Deathbound, a new game headed to Steam, is the most recent Soulslike product to hit the markets, in what feels like an infinitely growing list of titles. This particular sub-genre got its start when Demon Souls released in 2009. The game directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki and developed by FromSoftware, was considered a spiritual successor to King’s Field. The style of video game design that made Demon Souls so popular, with its difficult combat and impressive environment, has inspired franchises from God of War to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. And now, Deathbound is bringing one more RPG Soulslike game into the hands of players.

Deathbound promises to be a new and unique action RPG that combines science and religion.  The title was developed by Trialforge Studio and published by Tate Multimedia. It was announced in an official trailer on August 7, and will be available to gamers at some point in 2024. One way Deathbound claims it will be different from other Soulslike games, is the class system has been turned upside down.

In Deathbound, players can switch between different heroes and classes at any time. According to the studio, this is exactly what players will be required to do, in order to survive dangerous enemy encounters. The “binding system” is another part of the game, where players collect the essences of fallen enemies use them to upgrade their skill tree, or party of heroes. The official Steam page equipped with the announcement trailer and extra details is attached at the bottom of the article.

As previously mentioned, the Deathbound story is set to collide science and religion. It will heavily use a variety of magic and melee combat features and bring a unique upgrade function to gamers. According to the Steam store, there are five important features within the game:

“𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 – Gain the skills, memories and identities of fallen warriors throughout the world. Combine their unique personalities and combat styles and switch between them seamlessly.

𝐁𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦 – The essences you absorb form your party. Deathbound features a robust party system that allows players to craft a playstyle through talent trees. Seamlessly switch between fallen warriors to harness their skills and abilities. Each party member’s affiliation in life will affect their synergy in death.

𝐃𝐲𝐧𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐌𝐨𝐫𝐩𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 – Unleash the combined powers of fallen warriors with devastating Morphstrikes. Utilize different attack styles to pull-off powerful combinations and finishing blows to defeat all who oppose you.

𝐁𝐫𝐮𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 – Ziêminal is a world that mixes a technological past and a medieval present, home to diverse cultures. The city of Akratya is rich in lore and dangers. Explore a city falling into ruin under the shadow of a grand crusade. From the body-filled streets to arenas and places of worship. With its imposing brutalist architecture and melding of technology, it’s a city bound for oblivion.

𝐔𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 – Face challenging enemies crafted to push you to your limits. Their very nature is based on the five stages of grief, with each new encounter commanding the attention of any soul who dare face them. “

The Deathbound description certainly sounds like it could be a worthy addition to the Soulslike sub-genre. If its class feature lives up to the hype, then fans might be in for a major win.
