Denis Villeneuve is at the top of the world (and the box office) after releasing his iconic Timothée Chalamet film, Dune: Part Two. Getting a theatrical release at the start of March, the film went on to earn $711 million at the global box office, which is the highest earnings in 2024 by any film.
Well, the director made some bold comments regarding the high earnings that Dune: Part Two earned. While talking about other movies and people not going to theaters, Villeneuve revealed that he’s sad that his film is still at number one on the box office collection!
Denis Villeneuve Is Suffering From Success
It is indeed no small feat for a film to pull in $711 million at the global box office, especially after the rise of streaming services and the pandemic. However, Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two managed to do that in three months since the release of the film.
Getting released on the 1st of March, Dune: Part Two went on to earn quite a high figure on the global box office. This made the film the highest-grossing movie of the year 2024 (till now). In a recent event, Villeneuve had some things to say about the success of his film.
As per a report by Yahoo, the director revealed in a public event that he is “disappointed” that Dune: Part Two is still running at the top!
I’m disappointed to still be number one. … I hope soon that there will be other successes at the box office. I hope, sooner or later, that this summer box office will be much better.
And surely the director is right in his place. With films like Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga facing failure and disappointing earnings, the world of theaters has indeed gone a bit dull. But not all hope is lost.

Twisters

Now, Top Gun: Maverick star Glen Powell is attached to the lead role in the upcoming 2024 film Twisters, which is a direct sequel to the OG movie. With Joseph Kosinski (director of Top Gun: Maverick) as one of the writers of the film, Twisters could very well make its way to earning high numbers at the global box office.
After all, people love an apocalyptic movie, just look at 2012.
