Harrison Ford’s Stunt Double Sets Himself on Fire to Protest Against the Industry Giants

On Monday, to support the Writers Guild of America and the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists strikes, a group of stunt performers gathered at Covert Camera Vehicles, as reported by WSB-TV. They voiced their concerns regarding better pay and a healthier working environment in the film industry.  Among the attendees was the stunt actor Mike Massa, who made a bold during the event by setting himself on fire. Ensuring utmost safety, he had special protective materials and a fire crew present on-site.

Mike Massa, known for his daring feats in the industry, recently served as a stunt double for Harrison Ford in the latest Indiana Jones film and also co-coordinated the film’s stunt sequences.

The striking event was later shared on Massa’s Instagram and captioned it, “We are tired of being burned by the AMPTP”. After nearly 63 years, the two unions have come together to protest against the challenging working conditions that actors and writers in the industry endure. Joining hand in hand, they aim to bring attention to the pressing issues and advocate for better treatment and support for their members. As long as the strike goes on, viewers will have to bid farewell to the prospect of enjoying new episodes of fan favorites as well the entire late-night talk show circuit.

Update on the SAG-AFTRA and WGA Strikes!

The aforementioned act by the Harrison Ford stunt double was in response to the stalled negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, Frustration over the burnt-out negotiations motivated them to take a bold stance, seeking better conditions and fair treatment in the film and television industry.

The rally saw multiple stunt persons speaking in support of the strike, and it culminated in a dramatic stunt performance, featuring Massa’s fiery demonstration. One such stunt expert was, Elena Sanchez. She said,

“Eighty-seven percent of the 160,000 SAG-AFTRA members make less than $26,000 a year. Which means they do not qualify for health insurance.–The AMPTP is opposed to us sharing the rewards of a successful show because we don’t bear any of the risks.”

For 72 days now, the WGA has been steadfastly advocating for what rightfully belongs to them, as they engage in a strike against the AMPTP, striving to secure a fresh contract with Hollywood studios. Unfortunately, sources from Deadline indicate that the AMPTP, led by Carol Lombardini, currently shows no willingness to enter into negotiations with the writers in the foreseeable future.

“I think we’re in for a long strike, and they’re going to let it bleed out,”

This was the statement shared by an industry expert, who comprehends the studios’ position well, to predict an extended strike looming on the horizon.
