Without a doubt, Alan Wake 2 was one of the most popular games of 2023. With big wins at the 2023 Game Awards, the game has been labeled as one of the best survival horror video games of all time. The game is now officially Remedy Entertainment’s fastest-selling game ever but there is still a problem: it hasn’t made any profit for the studios.
The news comes from Remedy themselves as CEO Tero Virtala revealed that the revenue made by the game has “recouped a significant part” of the development and marketing expenses. The game officially sold 1 million units by the end of December 2023, and an additional 300,000 units in January and February 2024. The game was released only digitally for PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S on 27 October 2023.
Alan Wake 2 has managed to sell 1.3 million units so far
Remedy Entertainment recently announced the sales information for 2023’s Alan Wake 2 on its website. It has been revealed that the game has managed to sell 1.3 million units so far, making Alan Wake 2 Remedy’s fastest-selling game so far,
“Alan Wake 2 has sold 1 million units by the end of December 2023, and 1.3 million units as of the beginning of February 2024. Alan Wake 2 is Remedy’s fastest selling game so far.”
Alan Wake 2 was released for PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S on 27 October 2023, and selling 1 million units in just 2 months is certainly a big achievement. Before Alan Wake 2, Control held that record but the blog revealed that Alan Wake 2 sold over “50% more copies and over three times” more digital copies in its first two months than Control did in its first four months.
Alan Wake 2 hasn’t made any profit
Further in the blog, Remedy’s CEO Tero Virtala revealed that the game is yet to make a profit for the studios as it has only earned a certain part of its massive expenses,
“The price point has also remained at a high level, and the game has already recouped a significant part of the development and marketing expenses.”
Virtala also revealed that the game’s success has also allowed them to continue working on games like Condor, Control 2, and Max Payne 1 & 2 remake. As for Alan Wake 2, it has been confirmed that the studios are working on two paid DLCs that will expand the story.
