The tales of Hugh Jackman’s jaw-dropping transformation for Logan aren’t unheard of. From his intense workout sessions to the stupefying 8300-calorie diet that he followed religiously to get ripped, the Australian actor made headlines for the shocking regimen that garnered him the jacked-up build that he had in the film.

But Sir Patrick Stewart would’ve probably given Jackman a run for his money seeing how the former achieved an unimaginable physical feat for his role in Logan, especially for someone his age.

Sir Patrick Stewart Lost Weight for Logan

James Mangold’s Logan is perhaps one of the most cherished X-Men films ever. Sure, it also probably ranks as the most brutal one with all the carnage that unfolded in it, but the emotional intensity of the characters paired with Hugh Jackman‘s gripping performance made it almost effortless for people to fall in love with the superhero/action flick.

Little did the audience know though, the actors were pouring their blood, sweat, and tears to nail their part on-screen, even the eldest cast member, Patrick Stewart.

Stewart, who portrays the beloved Charles Xavier in the X-Men series and who had been 76 at the time of Logan, dropped a shocking 21 lbs for his part in the Oscar-nominated film. The English actor who is presently 82 years old, had never once lost weight for any movies before the blockbuster venture, no matter how good the paycheck might have been. So, all those times when Jackman’s Wolverine carried Professor X around in the film, yeah, that wasn’t staged.

Hugh Jackman Put on Muscle for His Role

While his co-star shed weight, The Wolverine star was busy toning his body into a muscled shrine by throwing himself at the mercy of grueling workouts and a stupendously high-calorie diet to stay in superhero shape. His daily intake for the bulk-up included everything from rice and vegetables to meat and fish. Those giant biceps weren’t going to build themselves after all.

But a high-protein intake and exercises that would probably leave one gasping for air aren’t all that Jackman did, he even derived himself of water, and that too, for 3 days straight.

“You increase your water intake  … you have about 10 liters of water, which is, what is that, three gallons of water a day,” Jackman told Stephen Colbert on The Late Show. “Then you stop about 36 hours before you shoot, but because you’ve drunk [sic] so much water you are peeing all the time.”

In what was a 36-hour dehydration regimen, the 54-year-old actor lost 10 lbs of water weight. And no, he wouldn’t recommend it at all. Ever. It’s as dangerous as it sounds.
