My Hero Academia fans are jubilant after the release of the raw scan of Chapter 404: We Love You, All Might. The last page features Katsuki Bakugo returning to action and saving All Might from the clutches of All For One. He is about to deliver a beating to Sensei, thereby stealing the spotlight from Izuku Midoriya once again.

Bakugo’s return can be seen from a Dragon Ball point of view. Even though Goku dies several times in the series, he is somehow able to be revived into a stronger version of himself and defeat the villain. He overshadowed Vegeta, a fellow Saiyan, as a result.

Kōhei Horikoshi’s My Hero Academia is treading on similar waters. After all, Bakugo was considered ‘dead’ but made his comeback in just 43 chapters.

How Did Bakugo Return To Action in My Hero Academia?

Chapter 362: Light Fades to Rain featured Bakugo succumbing to his wounds after a fight with Shigaraki. A gaping hole was left on his chest as he took a blow that ruptured his heart. In a last-ditch effort to save the next generation of heroes, Edgeshot sacrificed his lifespan to sew Bakugo’s body by transforming himself into a microscopic thread.

It is worth noting that Katsuki Bakugo was technically dead because his heart had stopped beating and there was also internal damage to other organs. Horikoshi has a tendency to fake out the deaths of both heroes and villains. Despite My Hero Academia being in the final arc, only Himiko Toga is the only confirmed death while Katsuki and Toya Todoroki have cheated death.

Initially, a sense of gloom overcame the narrative in Chapter 404 as it began with Sir Nighteye’s vision of All Might falling into the wrong hands of All for One. Strong gusts of wind blow over the area such that US weather lady, Meryl, senses unease. Manga readers eventually witnessed the team-up of Izuku and Bakugo as the latter jumped out of the top of U.A. High School to get into action.

Edgeshot’s sacrifice means that Bakugo may have some of the latter’s powers with him. Chapter 404 will actually be released on October 23, 2023, but the hype around Bakugo’s return has already taken over social media, spoiling the surprise for many MHA fans.

Katsuki Bakugo’s Return Is Not The Right Option

One major flaw in My Hero Academia is the aspect of characters being written off. Fan favorites like Edgeshot either die off-screen or return later, as if Kōhei Horikoshi is saving characters to implement them later after running out of ideas. Creativity block affects the best of mangakas.

An example is the death of Sir Nighteye after the Shie Hassaikai arc. Despite being an exceptionally strong Pro Hero, he is fatally wounded by Overhaul in a small-scale conflict. The unceremonious exit of yet another fan-favorite character was controversial but what was more controversial was the fact that Bakugo had the best death in the series but was revived.

Moreover, Izuku ‘Deku’ Midoriya has been felt as more of a protagonist than Bakugo. He grew up without a Quirk but eventually was able to learn to fight with or without it, impressing fans with his hustle. There have also been times when Deku’s moment has been stolen by Bakugo, such as in the case of Heroes Rising, when he had to transfer the powers of All Might to save the world.

In fact, Deku might have been the central protagonist of My Hero Academia if not for Bakugo’s surge in popularity. This is why both work in tandem to defeat major villains. Unfortunately, Kōhei Horikoshi prefers to give Katsuki Bakugo more limelight, thus resulting in a return, highlighting how Izuku will be back to playing support to the ‘Explosion’ Quirk user.
