Dwayne Johnson’s journey from being a WWE champion to an action star in Hollywood has been an inspirational one. The Rock, along with John Cena, has managed to seamlessly make the shift from a sportsman to a movie star and has backed it up by being one of the most commercially viable actors with a massive net worth.

Johnson’s big break in Hollywood came with The Mummy Returns, the 2nd installment in the popular adventure franchise starring Brendan Fraser. The WWE star impressed viewers in his role as the Scorpion King which later led to a standalone film featuring him. Despite being co-stars in a cult franchise, Brendan Fraser and Dwayne Johnson hardly interacted on set and the Oscar winner explained why.

Brendan Fraser and Dwayne Johnson Did Not Bond On The Set Of The Mummy Returns

In The Mummy Returns, Brendan Fraser reprised his role as swashbuckling adventurer Rick O’Connell along with co-star Rachel Weiss. This time, they had company in the form of Dwayne Johnson who made his acting debut as Fraser’s nemesis, the Scorpion King. While the thrilling action and chemistry between the two stars worked with audiences and critics, the on-set interaction was surprisingly almost non-existent.

Fraser in an interview, explained that Johnson’s scenes, which happened mostly towards the end of the film, were mostly done with CGI and hence did not require him to be on set. In his trademark light-hearted humor, The Whale actor responded to host Drew Barrymore’s comment that she was unable to act in front of an object imagining it is a person.

“I happen to be really good at it. [Do] you know why? Because in The Mummy Returns, Dwayne Johnson was just a piece of tape on a stick”

Meanwhile, Dwayne Johnson’s impressive performance albeit in a short role, led to the actor getting his own spin-off film titled The Scorpion King, which was a stepping stone for the Black Adam star to enter the big leagues.
