The DCU has some of the most incredible characters on their roster but with so many different issues, their movies never make it to the top. Although there are various movies like Wonder Woman and Zack Snyder’s Justice League, that really stood out for the audience, they never made enough in the worldwide box office to stand out as much as movies of the Marvel Cinematic Universe do.

Moreover, the MCU has had some of the biggest movies of all time. It has ruled over the box office for over a decade now and has given out some of the most loved movies. The DC Universe has unfortunately always fallen short of something or the other, which is why James Gunn and Peter Safran had to take over.

Aquaman Stands As DCU’s Highest-Grossing Movie

Aquaman made a total of $1.148 Billion worldwide according to The Numbers, making it the biggest DCU movie of all time as of date. The movie surprisingly surpassed movies starring Ben Affleck as well as Henry Cavill. Jason Momoa’s movie managed to make way over what its budget had been. The movie had a budget of $160-$200 Million. The movie attracted a lot of fans because of how unique the story had been. While both Batman and Superman had seen multiple versions of themselves in the past, Aquaman was making his big-screen debut.

Starring Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Nicole Kidman, Patrick Wilson, and Willem Defoe, the movie had a unique outlook on the environment. It managed to even surpass Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman. Unfortunately, due to so much controversy and backlash regarding Heard, the sequel will be marked as the final installment of the character’s story. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom has already seen various rewrites and reshoots that have made the fans worry more so.

The Avengers Still Made More Than Aquaman

Although Jason Momoa’s Aquaman is the highest-grossing movie for the DC Universe, it still stands behind the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s The Avengers. While Momoa’s film made $1.148 Billion, The Avengers made $1.5 Billion at the worldwide box office. To say that the first Avengers is far from what the highest-grossing Marvel movie has made puts Aquaman in a spot.

The Avengers

The first Avengers movie was highly awaited and is to date compared to Justice League in the sense of what it did right and why the latter did it wrong. While Momoa’s future looks grim as to whether or not he can continue as a superhero, things might not work out that well for its sequel as compared to how successful the first movie had been.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will be available to watch in theatres from 20th December 2023.
