Irish actors made quite some noise in the past year. Case in point: Cillian Murphy‘s moving performance in Christopher Nolan’s biographical drama- Oppenheimer. The movie is based on the 2005 biography American Prometheus by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin.
Oppenheimer follows the career of American physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer, especially his work on the Manhattan Project, which was undertaken during World War II to develop the first nuclear weapons, and his eventual downfall due to his security hearing in 1954.
Unsurprisingly, Christopher Nolan knew the very actor whom he wanted to star in the lead role. Nolan gets what he wants, and this time, things were no different. That having been said, Murphy has worked with some of the best actors and has been working in Hollywood long enough to form his verdict on an actor.
The actor in question is Normal People breakout Irish star Paul Mescal. In an interview with GQ, Cillian Murphy gave his verdict on Paul Mescal with a kind of pride radiating off him, saying:
“He is the real deal. He is like a true movie star. They don’t come along that often. But luckily, they seem mostly to come from Ireland. It’s a good time to be an Irish actor, it seems.”
Being an Irish actor, Murphy certainly knows about the struggles of making it big in Hollywood. Acknowledging other Irish actors making it big in the industry simply depicts his humility.
Paul Mescal is Not the Only Actor Cillian Murphy Has Praised Lately
Although Cillian Murphy is not a fan of doing interviews, he did everything that he possibly could to promote Christopher Nolan’s blockbuster movie- Oppenheimer. This obviously included numerous interviews.
Murphy has been quite generous while complimenting his co-stars. In an interview with GQ before the SAG-AFTRA strike, he praised Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, and Robert Downey Jr., all in the same interview.
Speaking of working with Robert Downey Jr., the Peaky Blinders star said:
“I mean, acting with him was just extraordinary. He’s just electrifying, the most available, engaged, present, unpredictably brilliant actor I’ve ever worked with.”
Everyone who has worked with the Batman Begins actor has only got good things to say about him. Even the Chaplin star has spoken highly of Murphy on a different occasion.
