Embracer Group keeps making cutbacks and layoffs in their game studios. Now is the turn of Eidos Montreal, which was developing a new game in the Deus Ex franchise in the action RPG genre. This news was posted on the social media of Eidos. They mention the excellent work of the past 17 years in different titles, such as Hitman, Tomb Raider, and others. They also addressed the layoffs.

This news of the Deus Ex canceled game was first published by Bloomberg. According to Jason Schreier, the studio was ordered to shut down the project by Embracer Group, and they will be focusing on a new original IP. This Deus Ex project would have entered the production phase later this year. The investor group is restructuring its companies to cut back on expenses.

The journalist, Jason Schreier, tweeted about this new Deus Ex game in production two years ago. This game would be the first major IP from Square Enix to be revived by Embracer Group after the acquisition in 2022. They also have names like Tomb Raider, Thief, and many more, but only Lara Croft has a new game in development at the moment.

This Swedish group has acquired a huge number of different and well-known game studios. They bought Nordic, later named THQ Nordic, back in 2011, adding THQ to the name. In 2018, they acquired the majority of Koch Media, along with studios like Deep Silver. They also bought Gearbox with IPs like Borderlands, Duke Nukem, and many more.

Last year, Embracer Group closed several studios, like Saints Row Creators, Volition Studios, Campfire Cabal, and Free Radical Design. With all the layoffs in the last couple of years, Embracer Group has let go of more than 1000 employees from its different companies. All the inversions were not well managed by the company.

This company failed to close a deal for a $2 billion inversion from a Saudi group, and Embracer has been downhill since then, laying off more and more employees without any clear direction. One of the next games to launch under the Embracer umbrella is Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2, a title that has already been delayed. But now it will launch on September 9 for the PS5, PC, and Xbox Series S/X. In the meantime, we wait to find out if we’re ever going to get another Deus Ex game.

I'm a big fan of movies and videogames in general. I really love Pokémon and Godzilla. One of my favorite games is The Last of Us, Part II. A compelling and well-written story is always welcome.
