During an interview with Collider, Holland expressed his thoughts on returning as a web-slinger in the fourth Spider-Man movie. Given the success his movies garnered, whether the next installment would be released or not is quite uncertain. He revealed,

“All I can say is that we have been actively engaging in conversations about what it could potentially look like for a fourth rendition of my character. Whether or not we can find a way to do justice to the character is another thing.”

He admitted feeling protective of his character which is why he wants to protect his legacy and make sure that the next movie is worth his character’s story.

“I feel very protective over Spider-Man. I feel very, very lucky that we were able to work on a franchise that got better with each movie, that got more successful with each movie, which I think is really rare, and I want to protect his legacy. So, I won’t make another one for the sake of making another one. It will have to be worth the while of the character.”

Sure enough, his standalone movies have not only been a commercial success but pushed the Spider-Man arc to its best. Two of his movies have surged past the $1 billion benchmark, meanwhile one sits quite close to the parameter. This now spice things up as the new movie would have to perform its level best to even stand on par with its predecessors.

Given the franchise’s lackluster box office performance this year specifically, it could be a blessing in disguise as rushing the project might affect the result it holds in the market.

All of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man flicks are available on Disney+.
