Michael Jackson is one of the greatest figures that influenced and redefined pop music. He revolutionized the genre and made it mainstream and relevant. His contributions to the genre are immense and his style is seen to have influenced many contemporary pop acts by many pop acts like the Weeknd and the band The 1975.
The King of Pop is also infamously known for his long-standing feud with another music legend Prince. The two pop icons were not on speaking terms and avoided collaborating on any musical project together. While the root cause of the rivalry between the two is not exactly known, many think that the incident at a James Brown concert was the beginning of their feud.
Prince’s Close Associates Believe Michael Jackson Humiliated Prince
Michael Jackson and Prince’s infamous rivalry has been documented by various media. The two music icons’ feud started in the 80s and the root cause of the rivalry is not known. However, it is believed that an incident involving the duo at a James Brown concert in 1983 proved to be the start of their long-standing feud.
As Yahoo! Life reports, at the concert Brown called up Jackson on the stage and he briefly entertained the audience. After a while. Jackson called Prince onto the stage (who was high at the time) and played guitar. It seems that he took his shirt off and also knocked down some props that were on the stage.
This seemed to have freaked out the crowd a little bit with Prince’s drummer Bobby Z exclaiming “Oh boy … he made an ass of himself tonight.” (via Slate). This incident seems to be the catalyst of the feud and according to Slate, Prince’s associates were convinced that Jackson was successful in humiliating Prince at that incident.
Michael Jackson Pranked Called Russell Crowe Many Times
Michael Jackson is known worldwide as The King of Pop and is celebrated for his incredible contributions to pop music. In addition, he is also for his soft and likable personality. It seems like the late music icon played a hilarious prank on one of Hollywood’s versatile actors Russell Crowe.
Talking to The Guardian, Crowe remembered the time when he received several bizarre calls that scared him while he was staying in several hotels. The caller later revealed himself to be Jackson. Crowe said,
“For two or three f**king years. I never met him, never shook his hand, but he found out the name I stayed in hotels under, so it didn’t matter where I was, he’d ring up do this kind of thing, like you did when you were 10, you know. ‘Is Mr Wall there? Is Mrs Wall there? Are there any Walls there? Then what’s holding the roof up? Ha ha.’ You’re supposed to grow out of doing that, right?”
Crowe also told the same story on The Graham Norton Show which left everyone in splits. It is indeed a hilarious story that shows the fun side of the musician in addition to being a huge global star.
