The second season of Blue Lock didn’t deal with the unique conflict and the main character Yoichi Isagi turning into a bad guy, which the first episodes had promised.

In the beginning, this soccer anime showed that Isagi and his teammates would eventually have to compete against each other in a tough death match, where only one can win. This intense competition made them act less friendly.
Since this anime is different from typical sports anime, fans thought it would keep being unusual. But did the Blue Lock anime disappoint when compared to the popular manga?
Spoiler Alert: The article contains major spoilers from the Blue Lock anime.
An Unexpected Ease Due to Hidden Emotions in the First Rematch
In episode 19, Isagi played his first match against his old teammates without any big drama, and he didn’t turn into a bad guy like Blue Lock hinted at. Before a 3-vs-3 game everyone was looking forward to, Isagi’s former teammates Chigari and Kunigami are heard talking about getting back at him.
But as soon as they planned it, Isagi and his new team showed up, and all the negative feelings vanished. This continued until after the match when Chigari told Kunigami to keep competing for their revenge plan. Isagi didn’t seem uncomfortable when they met.
Only once during the match did he act a bit mean, using a word from Barou against him. Here’s the ironic part: at the end of the highly anticipated match, only Isagi’s teammate Nagi gave fans the moment they wanted.

He totally dominated his old friend and teammate, Reo. In a Shonen series that’s been called putting “friendship” on the line, and it would have been more interesting if the hero, Isagi, had taken down Kunigami instead of following the usual pattern of someone else being the villain. Even though Chigari and Kunigami still show they want revenge, it feels too late.
Fans were expecting a tragic rematch for Isagi, but it happened sooner than expected, and now it’s unclear how future rematches will be any different. The first rematch should have been the hardest, but it seemed too easy because they kept their feelings hidden.
The Consequences of Anger in Team Selection
Isagi was mean to Barou, but later he said he was caught up in the moment. It shouldn’t have happened because Barou shouldn’t be on Isagi’s team. It would have been better if Isagi hadn’t chosen Barou out of anger.

This would make Isagi seem more like a villain and still follow the rules of Blue Lock. Before, Isagi picked the three best players, even though it was hard. Not picking Barou would have made him work even harder to win and maybe face Barou again.
Some people might think that Blue Lock’s second season is trying to build up to these moments instead of rushing them. Some events happened very fast when Isagi faced Chigari and Kunigami. Blue Lock is known for being different from other series, but with the anime not doing so is making it follow the same old patterns.
