Going as far back as the first Iron Man in 2008, in a behind-the-scenes documentary (via ScreenRant), the viewers got an idea of just how much the Oppenheimer star went through to play Tony Stark to perfection. Here, while talking about the uneasy and complicated controls of the suit that was trying to get a hang of, he said something that made sense all these years later. He said:

While he may have meant this comment as nothing more than a jest, this statement may just show how much he understood the character, and how deeply it resonated with him as he tried to understand him.

Why Was Iron Man Such An Important Character In The MCU?

The biggest reason why he’s the most important for the cinematic universe is that he was the one who made it all possible in the first place. If Iron Man hadn’t performed exceptionally well like it did, the the entire MCU would’ve been wiped from the planning board before it could even start.

But the other reason why Tony Stark became the the fundamental pillar of the MCU was because he was the one who started it all. From realizing that humanity needed to be saved from itself, he helped in the creation of the Avengers. Every time the heroes won, it meant that the world was saved, and his brain was the reason.
