Returning back to one of the most crucial moments in the history of the MCU, the snap that brought everything to the way it was, but changed everything at the same time as well. Of course, that moment has to be Robert Downey Jr.’s snap with the Infinity Gauntlet on his arms, and the wish to save everyone in his heart.
The selfless sacrifice was the culmination of everything that the character of Tony Stark went through to become the one and only Iron Man in the MCU, and his death was worthy of the title of hero that he was. But this death wasn’t even in the cards for the character for almost a decade and a half since his introduction, still, RDJ somehow knew he was going to die in the future.
Robert Downey Jr. Predicted The Death Of Tony Stark Many Years Back
While the character eventually met his demise in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, Tony Stark left a lasting impression on the entire MCU for generations to come. Thus, Robert Downey Jr. was seen as an icon of the new revolution that the cinematic juggernaut was bringing into the industry after the success of the first Iron Man films.
But even when the character of Tony Stark was just starting to get on his feet, the actor predicted that there would come a time when Iron Man would sacrifice himself.

Going as far back as the first Iron Man in 2008, in a behind-the-scenes documentary (via ScreenRant), the viewers got an idea of just how much the Oppenheimer star went through to play Tony Stark to perfection. Here, while talking about the uneasy and complicated controls of the suit that was trying to get a hang of, he said something that made sense all these years later. He said:
“He’s probably just as likely to kill himself trying to save people as he is to do the right thing”
While he may have meant this comment as nothing more than a jest, this statement may just show how much he understood the character, and how deeply it resonated with him as he tried to understand him.

Why Was Iron Man Such An Important Character In The MCU?
The biggest reason why he’s the most important for the cinematic universe is that he was the one who made it all possible in the first place. If Iron Man hadn’t performed exceptionally well like it did, the the entire MCU would’ve been wiped from the planning board before it could even start.
But the other reason why Tony Stark became the the fundamental pillar of the MCU was because he was the one who started it all. From realizing that humanity needed to be saved from itself, he helped in the creation of the Avengers. Every time the heroes won, it meant that the world was saved, and his brain was the reason.
