Palworld was an unprecedented success when it launched on January 19th, 2024, boasting a whopping nineteen million players in its first two weeks alone. One developer on the game has come forward to address this amazing success, Bucky CM, Community Manager at Pocket Pair, has admitted on Twitter/X that they hoped the game would do well, but didn’t expect it to quite as well as it has.
They have also addressed criticism about the game’s recent drop in player count and assured fans that more content is coming soon.
Palworld was a huge success even the developers didn’t expect
In a lengthy post on Twitter/X, @bucky_cm reflected on their feelings on Palworld before its launch in January. Prior to launching Bucky believed the game would probably cross the 50,000-player mark but was caught off guard when it reached high into the millions, it’s undeniable that Palworld is a smashing success and is great news for this turbulent and ever-changing industry.
With Palworld quickly approaching the 1-month mark, it’s interesting to look back at my own thoughts for launch.
In May of 2023, I was convinced that Palworld could break the 50,000 player mark. Anything above that seemed unobtainable though, and I certainly never expected it to… pic.twitter.com/1rZaV30QON

“It has taken years to get to this point, and Palworld only really begins here”
The tweet also pushed back against the discourse that Palworld is suffering after the recent drop in players, stating “this emerging “palworld has lost x% of it’s player base” discourse is lazy” and that “players do not need to feel guilty about hopping from game to game” suggesting that the player decline is temporary while players explore other titles waiting for Palworld to bring out new content.
It’s clear that Bucky is happy with the success of the game and that the developer is committed to bringing new content to the game in the coming months and making it an even greater success than it already is.
Fans were quick to come to the games and Bucky’s defense showed their commitment to supporting the game into the future. Bucky engaged with them on Twitter/X discussing their shared love of games and praising Palworld for its success.
Twitter/X users praised the developer’s engagement with the community and response to the backlash.

Despite recent drops in player numbers, developer Pocket Pair has fans on the side and is grateful to the community for its support in the game’s first month, the game has been a shocking success to all involved and it’s a win no matter which way you slice it.
The engagement between fans and developers is encouraging to see in a time when things are very much in flux and many people are questioning the big corporations commitment to supporting their customers. What do you think? Let us know in the comments
