Despite being claustrophobic, Sandra Bullock reportedly agreed to many situations when she could have struggled to breathe. One of the most difficult challenges was shooting the underwater scene for the film with Bullock and Alfonso Cuaron. Cuaron held his breath with Bullock because he didn’t want to push the 58-year-old actor to her limitations. The surprising moment was when the film’s director was unable to match Bullock’s lung capacity.

Bullock was still underwater when Cuaron gave up. He realized that the Birdbox actress has great lung power. Cuaron recalled this incident and said,

“Halfway through the take, I was gasping for air — and she just kept on going,’ At some point, we were like, ‘Sandy, are you okay?’ And she would say I am fine don’t ruin the take.”

The 61-year-old filmmaker was quite impressed with Bullock and how she overcome her anxieties to make sure Cuaron got a perfect shot for the film.
