Five Nights at Freddy’s, a Blumhouse horror comedy based on the popular video game series, amassed a number of fans and profited well at the box office, earning over $295 million against a measly budget of $20 million. With that kind of success, fans would assume that a sequel has already been underway; unfortunately, it remains uncertain.
If you’ve seen the movie, there’s a mid-credits stinger that teased what seems to be a set-up for future installments. There are many more aspects to it that the creative team can explore, and it certainly demands more sequels and even spinoffs.
Five Nights at Freddy’s Director And Producer Provide Sequel Update
In an interview with Variety, director Emma Tammi responded to the anticipation of fans for another installment of Five Nights at Freddy’s given that actor Matthew Lillard confirmed that he signed up for a three-movie contract. Tammi stated:
“We’re definitely excited to keep making more movies in this world, should we be lucky enough to do that. This one was tied into the first game, and we would probably focus on tying the second one into the second game, and so on and so forth. But anything could happen. We’ll have to see.”
Meanwhile, in a recent interview with executive producer and Blumhouse Vice President of Feature Film Development Ryan Turek, it seems that they are not yet devoting their attention to the potential sequel. He revealed via Collider:
“That movie made so much money. It was a huge success, and we’re grateful for that. Emma [Tammi] did such a great job, but we’re still waiting for the green light on that. We’ll see. It’s just part of the process, I think.”
The future of the sequel still remains a mystery, though given its success at the box office and the demands of the fans, there is a high chance that Blumhouse would finally get their hands on Five Nights at Freddy’s franchise.
Tammi also added that should a sequel happen, it will include more cameo appearances from the YouTube gaming community. That’s definitely one thing that fans can hold on to. As one of the highest-performing horror film releases last Halloween, it deserves to get another shot.
Fans Are Not Thrilled With The Latest News On Five Nights at Freddy’s 2
Horror fans are surprised that the studio is taking so long to confirm the sequel to Five Nights at Freddy’s given its massive blockbuster success. Many are hopeful that it will soon be green-lit. Check out their reactions below:
I think it’s kind of ridiculous to think that it’s not currently being developed out for at least four more films. Obviously the success of the movie is going to mean that we’re going to get many, many, many sequels

It very much will be. The first film was a huge financial success

Interesting. I would’ve thought with the massive success the first one brought in it would be an automatic green light.
With that, I wouldn’t mind if they didn’t. It’s tough when they dry to make a sequel for the money instead of actually wanting to expand on the story.

It will be, did you see how much it made at the box office?
— Anthony Russo (@Anthony_Russo97) January 1, 2024
Yeah okay.. if you don’t think they’re not doing a sequel then I don’t know what to tell you. It’s obvious that they’re working on it. It was a smash hit.

Based on fans’ reactions, the hype for Five Nights at Freddy’s sequel is quite strong, which is a great indicator for the studio that the franchise is very much appreciated by its viewers.
It would be a huge waste if a successful project, especially a low-budget original, did not get its own follow-up, so hopefully, in the future, we’ll hear more positive updates on this horror movie.
