The Fast and Furious franchise is a wacky one. We have seen cars go into space and dead characters return. Not to mention the fact that the convoluted plotlines of each film in the Vin Diesel-led franchise, especially the latter entries, deserve their own explanation videos. However, fans of the franchise assumed that the actor of every character who came back from the dead was surely informed previously about their return. Turns out that’s not the case. At least not with Michelle Rodriguez. Apparently, the star got to see her character Letty come back when she went to see the film.

Michelle Rodriguez’s Letty was killed off in the fourth film titled, Fast & Furious, which was released in 2009. But in the post-credits scene of Fast Five, Monica Fuentes (Eva Mendes) showed Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) that Letty was indeed alive. This led to the character making her return in Fast & Furious 6 working for Owen Shaw (Luke Evans). Speaking from the L.A. Live Event Deck, Rodriguez recalled the time when she didn’t even know that her character was returning. She said:

“Nobody told me. Nobody gave me a call. Nobody said anything, I watch a tag ending that says, ‘Do you believe in ghosts?’ I swear to you, I was in Paris, and I roll in to see ‘Fast Five,’ and that’s when I find out on my own.”

She immediately called Vin Diesel, the lead actor and producer of the mega-successful franchise, to know what was going on. But he said to her that he had planned this all along. As per the Dungeons and Dragons actor:

“I immediately grabbed my phone. I’m in Paris. I’m like, ‘Oh, hell no,’ I find out by going to the movies, Vin?”

Turns out, Vin Diesel didn’t completely blindside her. He gave a hint during a meeting with several Universal executives in Puerto Rico. Diesel apparently pitched that they should bring Letty back during this event. But no one in the room was convinced. As per Rodriguez:

“Everyone’s looking so confused. All the producers. The director’s like, ‘But she’s dead!’ What’s going on?”

But ultimately Diesel was successful and brought back Rodriguez’s character from the dead. As for what’s next for the franchise, the actress surprisingly said that she isn’t interested in an all-female-led movie. Instead, she wants something more.

After all, previously, Donna Langley, the head of Universal Pictures, informed Insider that she would be interested in seeing an all-female-cast movie set in the franchise. Apparently, Vin Diesel is on board too. So in the future, we might get a new generation of riders and a film led by women set in the franchise.
