From once being one of the most celebrated stars in the action landscape, the last few years have been extremely heartbreaking for the fans of Bruce Willis, especially his family members. After retiring from acting due to aphasia, later his family shared that his condition has progressed and the actor has been diagnosed with the cruel disease of frontotemporal dementia.
Considering this disease affects speech and communication in general, one of his daughters Tallulah Belle Willis revealed that she initially couldn’t accept the early signs of her father’s dementia.
Tallulah Willis initially couldn’t accept Bruce Willis’ worsening health
Bearing in mind that Tallulah Belle Willis was suffering from anorexia nervosa for around 4-years before she eventually recovered, she initially thought that her father lost interest in the actress. However, this couldn’t be further from the truth, as even though it took a while before she accepted her father’s worsening condition, she did eventually confront the harsh reality. While reflecting on the situation, the actress explained,
“I admit that I have met Bruce’s decline in recent years with a share of avoidance and denial that I’m not proud of. The truth is that I was too sick myself to handle it. … While I was wrapped up in my body dysmorphia, flaunting it on Instagram, my dad was quietly struggling.’
But with the Die Hard star diagnosed with FTD, his family hasn’t backed away from standing beside the actor in his struggling period, including his Wife Emma Hemmings, and all of his daughters.
Does Bruce Willis still recognize his daughter?
Even though the condition of the actor has substantially impacted his communication and speech in general, Bruce Willis still recognizes his daughter. While continuing to explain the difficulties and the challenges they have been dealing with, his daughter explained that the Die Hard star still lights up when she enters the room. Following her recovery from her eating disorder, the actress has been able to approach the situation with a much healthier perspective, as she revealed that she has overcome sadness and cherishes the moments with her father. She explained,
“I now have the tools to be present in all facets of my life, especially in my relationship with my dad. I can bring him an energy that’s bright and sunny, no matter where I’ve been. In the past I was so afraid of being destroyed by sadness, but finally I feel that I can show up and be relied upon.”
Although the situation has been quite painful for his entire family, having a clear diagnosis of Willis’ condition was a relief for them. But in these challenging times, Emma Hemming shared that all of them are working as a unit, as they share their love for the Die Hard star.
