James Cameron’s Avatar remains the highest-grossing film of all time. Yet, the director, known for extensive use of new motion capture filming techniques, expressed his desire to make a Terminator reboot, acknowledging that it is the best path forward for the $2 billion franchise. Now, the Canadian director is getting trolled for suggesting that he is waiting to see how A.I. develops in the real world before continuing the script.

The Idea Of A Terminator Reboot Sounds Risky

James Cameron is undoubtedly the master of scriptwriting and directing. Last year, the Titanic director appeared on the SmartLess podcast with hosts Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett, where he shared how Artificial intelligence got the best of him when it came to writing a Terminator reboot. Cameron said:

“If I were to do another Terminator film and maybe try to launch that franchise again, which is in the discussion, but nothing has been decided, I would make it much more about the AI side of it than bad robots gone crazy.”

As a matter of fact, Cameron, who directed Terminator 2: Judgement Day (1991), also played a significant role in making multiple attempts at reviving the Terminator franchise. But then, Terminator: Genisys (2015)and Terminator: Dark Fate (2019), underperformed at the box office.

Arnold Schwarzenegger, on the other hand, already expressed his desire to detach from the $2.2 billion franchise, admitting that the Terminator movies may massively fail in his absence. Many co-stars blamed the poorly written script. Now, Cameron facing writer’s block due to AI is both, troll-worthy and confusing.

James Cameron Doesn’t Need AI Or Terminator!

Since James Cameron declared that he is writing the script of a Terminator reboot, using real-world A.I. as inspiration, netizens continue to troll the director, suggesting, “Doesn’t he have like 1000 Avatar movies to write about?

Another questioned the credibility of the franchise, requesting Cameron to take his time as long as the new Terminator movie “isn’t a garbage like the rest.” Another Twitter user, however, came up with a logical suggestion, adding:

“Hopefully he goes back to making it parallel the real world with this AI inspiration. The first terminators were great because it was just the idea of machines we created becoming a threat in the future. Which was just a very infant idea at the time.”

One Twitter user trolled the director, “The next Terminator film about to be a documentary, let’s go!” Another recalled, “Terminator fans hated the last movie and he was a producer in that one.” A Twitter user asked Cameron to direct the reboot as no one else is willing to do the same. Here are some of the nasty tweets:

While the creative clashes behind the scenes of Dark Fate or its underperformance at the box office are enough reasons to discourage Cameron from another Terminator movie, one thing is sure. Cameron is one of the best writers of all time and doesn’t need AI to write a thing. What is also true is the idea of another Terminator movie with Schwarzenneger, the original T-90!

Schwarzenegger’s classic, The Terminator (1984) can be rented or purchased on Vudu.
