Tennant recently sat down for a conversation with Variety, where he was asked about his preparations for hosting the prestigious awards ceremony. During the interview, Tennant was asked whether he was afraid of his jokes being met with silence from the audience.

In response, Tennant stated that he did not feel the pressure since he was not a comic and wasn’t expected to be funny on stage.

“I’m just there to hold it all together. And don’t diss Tay Tay, I think (this) is the lesson to be learned. I live in a house of Taylor Swift fans, so I know better.”

Tennant made the above statement referencing host Jo Koy’s jokes about Taylor Swift that failed to impress the audience at this year’s Golden Globes. While Tennant made the comment jokingly, he meant to imply that he would be a fine host as long as he did not offend anyone at the event.

During the interview, Tennant was asked whether he was excited about hosting the awards ceremony. He responded by stating he was a bit bewildered and unsure of what to expect from the event.

“The whole thing just feels like one of those experiences you say “yes” to because it would be churlish not to. But what an amazing thing to be asked to do. What a privilege.”

Tennant made the above statement expressing his excitement to host this year’s ceremony. Meanwhile, Tennant also spoke about the supportive mood at the BAFTAs regarding the type of humor that is tolerated.

At the same time, Tennant did not want to emulate anyone else and said he would try to stick to his style. Tennant also expressed that he did not want to appear biased onstage and would avoid sharing his personal opinion about any of the nominated films.
