Matt Damon made his Hollywood debut in 1997, as Will Hunting in the Oscar-winning movie Good Will Hunting. Since then, he has made appearances in many other movies, including the hit action franchise, Bourne. After five movies, one of which Damon missed out on, the series took a break. But now, it looks like things are back in gear.

According to Matt Damon, director Edward Berger of All Quiet on the Western Front has an idea for the next instalment of the Bourne franchise after fans thought we had come to an end with Jason Bourne in 2016. But given Damon is currently 53 years old, it would be quite the task for the actor to reprise the role of the spy. And we already know he is not doing at least one thing in the move if it ever happens.

Matt Damon started on the Bourne franchise in 2002 with The Bourne Identity. Since then, he has reprised the role in all other movies of the series, except 2012’s The Bourne Legacy. But he returned for the last film of the franchise, Jason Bourne, before the franchise seemingly came to a close. Talking about the latest movie in the franchise, the actor revealed an interesting anecdote to GQ:

I turned 45 on the day I shot a scene where we’re two bare-chested guys fighting in a warehouse. I was really in shape and middle-aged guys like me would come up and say, “What does it take?” And I’m just like, “Don’t do it. It’s not worth it at all.” For that movie, I was training hours and hours a day. But the fatigue just takes so much out of you. You’re constantly making micro tears in your muscles.

Unfortunately, in his mid-40s, the actor did not have the same energy as he did in his 20s or 30s. Even if he physically looked the very best, internally things were a little different, and he had quite a few issues to deal with. So no, if it is up to him, chances are you won’t be seeing him fighting it out with the enemy shirtless.

Will There Be Another Bourne Movie?

A few months back, Matt Damon made an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, where he teased fans about a possible Bourne movie in the making. While rumors and possibilities of another movie happening in the franchise are not new, this was more substantial than any other rumors the franchise has faced in the recent few years. Talking to the host of the show, Damon said:

There is a great director named Edward Berger. [All Quiet on the Western Front] is a fantastic film, and he’s wonderful, and he said he had an idea. I would love to work with him, so he’s working on it.

Look, I’m as anxious as you are to see if this thing [happens] — I hope it’s great and that we can do it. At a certain point, somebody is going to need to take it over. I’m not getting any younger.

Hopefully, a new movie will be in the works soon. Until then, all movies in the Bourne franchise are available on Apple TV+.
