Voice acting is a profession that has been going on for generations. From movies to TV shows and animes, voice acting has its roots in all forms of multimedia. The public these days would be familiar with voice acting in terms of radio, tv shows, dubs, and so many more formats. However, it has little to no influence on payment.

No matter how big a series or an anime may be, a voice actor would not be earning even fractions as compared to actors and actresses. Keeping this in mind, anime has massively increased its influence. Unfortunately, voice actors just don’t earn enough despite that. Some voice actors do earn a lot more. Those who are renowned and much liked have a higher net worth. It still doesn’t compare to actors and actresses though.

The Reality Of Voice Actors in Anime

Anime is absolutely ruling the world these days. It would be rare to find someone who doesn’t know anime than someone who does. Having anime basically being mainstream media at this point, voice acting as a profession has also been getting more light. That, unfortunately, does not mean that they are being paid accordingly. Strikes are just as common, seeing both Actors and Writers’ Strikes going on in full swing. Their reasons are just as valid. However, for voice actors, things get more complicated as they do not get paid in the manner many would hope.

It would not be a surprise to see newcomer voice actors only get paid $145.44 which is far from what is expected. Newcomers who get lucky may also get paid $436.16. Although it is not enough either, the pay depends a lot on how much work there is. It also varies on their fame. If the voice actor is far renowned, they could charge a lot more per word but, if the voice actor is fairly new, they might barely get paid. Another factor that comes into consideration is how much they are to speak.

How Do Voice Actors Get Paid?

The payment and salaries of voice actors can vary drastically. They could be working for radio, TV shows, and animes. There could also be a possibility that the payment relies on their dubbing capabilities. Many voice actors also work independently. While many might have ties with various productions, quite a few of them don’t. Demon Slayer voice actor Sankonji Urokodai confirmed that the fame of an anime does not determine their payment.

He added that salaries for voice actors are usually pre-decided and no amount of increase in fame would tamper with that. So even if a shonen anime is ruling the charts, it does not affect their pay. However, fame increases their value, therefore increasing their pay for other projects from thereon.
