August Alsina Shares A Goodbye Message To Fans
August Alsina tried to hide his illness back in 2014 even after collapsing on stage. In 2017, he finally revealed his medical condition and received an outpouring of love and support. He decided to come clean and inform fans as to why he was not so active back then.
The rapper is suffering from a genetic medical issue that causes his autoimmune system to fight itself. Some of its consequences include vision problems and loss of ability to walk. At the time, Alsina admitted his liver had been affected as well.
To the surprise of his fans, Alsina posted a concerning message on his Instagram account as if he’s already saying goodbye:
“To all the loved 1’s who support me; These last couple projects are likely to be the last you see/hear of August Alsina. W/ that said, it is my hope that we can enjoy each other while I’m here, on my last victory lap around the sun. I’ll strive to make it as nostalgic as possible for you w/ beautiful tunes & high vibes. With great love, always. –AA”
In his appearance on Jada Pinkett Smith’s Red Table Talk, Alsina disclosed his condition and said he wasn’t asking for anyone’s sympathy. He stated via Revolt:
“I have a liver disease where my autoimmune system is fighting against itself. Reality is I’m sick all the time. I’d really like to talk about it, and I’m not looking for anybody’s sympathy. Don’t treat me like I’m a f—king cancer patient because I’m not.”
Alsina later apologized for his words and admitted it was just a defense mechanism. He rarely spoke about his illness since then.
August Alsina Reveals His Illness Runs In The Family
The disease has also affected his relatives, Alsina explained to Jada Pinkett Smith via People:
“I’m sicker than ever and having a hard time accepting what I feel and what the doctors are saying is most true. After sitting down and talking with my father’s mother and sister… they explained to me that sickness and illness runs in my family. My father and grandfather both died of severe illness.”
He also admitted in one of his Instagram posts that he could not feel his legs as a result of nerve damage throughout his body. Despite everything, the rapper remains positive and cheerful. He said he’s fighting, and he’s on a mission to get back on his groove once he feels better.
