The Marvel Cinematic Universe currently has a cloud of uncertainty looming over it after Jonathan Majors’ dismissal. Reports about the fate of Kang the Conqueror come and go, but nothing seems to be solid just yet. There are also reports that other big bad villains, including Doctor Doom, may replace the character altogether in the superhero universe.

Industry insider Alex Perez recently sat down and discussed the future and its possibilities when it comes to the MCU. During the conversation, he was asked whether or not the fan-favorite villain from comics, Doctor Doom, would be replacing Kang in the Multiverse Saga. Let’s take a look at what the scooper had to say about the likelihood.

Alex Perez joined The Cosmic Circus’ discord server to answer some of the most burning questions that fans have about the future of the superhero universe. The insider was asked whether Avengers 5 was going to keep Kang or replace him with “another big bad” after the Jonathan Majors debacle.
To this, Perez replied that according to what he has heard, the Studio wants to divert their attention to “other multiversal villains” before coming back to Kang for now. Another discord member asked if Kang would remain the “main villain” in the Multiverse Saga or if Marvel is thinking about changing their plans to someone else like the supervillain Doctor Doom a.k.a. Dr. Victor von Doom.
Perez answered, stating that he doesn’t believe Doctor Doom will be Kang’s replacement in the Multiverse Saga as there is no time left to build him up enough to do justice to the character. He added that even if Marvel decided to go with Doctor Doom now, it would be a “disservice” to both fans and the villain.
The insider continued that, according to him, Doctor Doom is a huge character and deserves better than being introduced in a post-credit scene and exiting the universe after playing the villain in two films. In the end, Perez stated that from what he has heard, the Studio wants to handle the supervillain like they handled Loki in the Infinity Saga.
I really don’t think Doom will be the main villain in this Saga, given the little time we have to build him up. It would be a disservice to us, to the character, and quite frankly a waste. Doom deserves better than 1 movie to set him up in a post-credit scene and then big bad for 2 movies and then be done with him. Plus, I’ve heard they’re treating Doom similar to how they’ve handled Loki in the Infinity Saga.
Well, as per Perez’s reports, it looks like there is still time before fans of Doctor Doom get to see him come to life in the MCU.
Loki Was Not a One-Dimensional Villain
![7. The horns on Loki's helmet in the first film were very vertical, which intentionally matched the upward shapes and design of Asgard.](https://fandomwire.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/loki-in-thor-ragnarok.jpg)
Unlike the majority of the big bads in superhero films, Tom Hiddleston‘s Loki was not one-dimensional. He was a complex character with layers to his personality like no other. One could say that Loki’s quest to be “worthy” like his brother Thor and to prove himself to his adoptive father Odin turned him into a tragic villain.
As the Infinity Saga went on, fans got to see such great character development in the God of Mischief that Loki became one of the favorites in no time. True change came in Thor: Ragnarok when he finally decided to help the people of Asgard evacuate, despite his struggle with identity and loyalty.
In The Infinity Saga, Loki was more than just a villain. He had depth to his character and was given a ton of screen time as well as character development. This allowed the audience to see the fictional world through Loki’s eyes and even sympathize with him on the way.
If Doctor Doom is going to be treated the same way as Loki, it would mean that the character should have a recurring role in the MCU, which will allow the creators to thoroughly explore and develop him. If Perez’s reports are true, fans should probably brace themselves for another character they unexpectedly fall in love with!
Avengers 5 will be released in theatres on May 01, 2026. Meanwhile, ine can stream The Avengers and Thor: Ragnarok on Disney+.
