Doom seems to have a sequel that should have been released by now, as revealed by a recent leak. According to recent Microsoft leaks, Bethesda’s highly acclaimed shooter has a fresh game entering the franchise. While the FTC leak appears to be a bit outdated now, the new Doom game is called Doom Year Zero and was supposed to launch during this financial year. Along with the base game, there are two DCLs planned for fiscal year 2023 and 2024, respectively. The leak also suggests releases like Fallout 3 Remaster, Dishonored 3 and The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion Remake.

Doom Year Zero – A Great addition to Bethesda’s Existing Library

FTC – Full Bethesda release schedule (including Doom Year Zero)

2023 may have started as a rough year for Bethesda, considering how Redfall took a fall, giving Xbox fans a little heartbreak. Yet, there has been a lot to look forward to. Later this year, we saw the release of Starfield, which may have filled our void for some great Xbox exclusives, but we’ve got a long way to go before we have a healthy collection of games that show off the Microsoft-Bethesda duo.

2020’s Doom Eternal received praise for its consistency and quality, with new players joining the ‘rip and tear until it’s done’ marathon. The game’s campaign and foundations were strong enough to make room for four excellent DLCs. It wasn’t a surprise to many of us when there were rumours of a new Doom. However, this leak confirms that a new game is in the works, and we can be a bit more optimistic about an announcement going forward.

So far, the Doom storyline has mixed up arcade, Hollywood-esque action with a classic philosophical feud between good and evil. The games have shown a brutal to-and-fro between the Slayer and the Dark Lord. If the developers choose to maintain this narrative direction, we can expect an epic battle between Slayer and newer kinds of evil in Doom Year Zero.

Based on the leak, Doom Year Zero will arrive on PC and consoles. There’s a catch here, though. Considering how FTC, Bethesda and Xbox have been making noise in recent time, it’s safe to say the game can be a part of Xbox Game Pass and exclusive to Xbox consoles. However, we’ve seen the rise of handheld and cloud gaming, which might make its way into Doom’s new game.
