Created by Akira Toriyama, Dragon Ball is a franchise that is not only well-recognized in Japan but proves to be a phenomenon around the whole wide world. One of the most noticeable elements of the series is how the characters get different transformations and abilities from time to time.

Son Goku, or Kakarot, the main protagonist of the series, is notorious for getting many different transformations and power-ups over the years. Just as fans might have begun to think how Ultra Instinct might be the last stop for him, the latest chapter of the Dragon Ball Super manga hints otherwise.

How Dragon Ball Super Manga Hints At A New Son Goku Transformation Coming Soon

The recent release of the manga’s chapter 102 on 20th February gives us an insight into how far the power levels of Gohan, Goten, and Trunks have come along. However, we also get to see a brawl between Goku and Gohan, during which a comment made by Beerus, the Lord of Destruction, has left fans excited.

Initially, it was Goku who had approached Gohan asking for a fight to see how strong he had become. This eventually led to both of them going all out in terms of their powers, with Goku even using his Ultra Instinct form. It was during this showdown that Beerus asked Whis if Ultra Instinct was the best Kakarot had going right now.

Although it may not appear to be significant right now, there’s a possibility Toriyama is subtly foreshadowing his plans. It’s been almost a decade since Goku received a major power-up, making it a perfect time to give him a new one sooner rather than later. There is no doubt that the power scaling of this particular franchise is simply broken and overpowered, making it difficult to even compare it to other anime series and their characters when it comes to abilities and strength.

Legacy Of Son Goku’s Transformations Over The Years

While the original Dragon Ball series showcasing Goku as a kid did not have any significant transformations or abilities to begin with, Dragon Ball Z which came out a few years later contained the most iconic power-ups and moments that we know of today.

It was Goku’s fight against Frieza on the planet Namek where we first got to witness the great Super Saiyan form, which sent shockwaves throughout the whole fan base. It has been smooth sailing since in terms of new abilities and transformations for not only Goku, but also his companions such as Gohan, Vegeta, and even Frieza too.

Some other iconic transformations that have managed to have an impact on the watchers include the succeeding Super Saiyan 2 and Super Saiyan 3 forms, which were used to fight against the androids posing a threat to the world of Dragon Ball. The next in line is the legendary Super Saiyan Blue form of Goku and Vegeta, which was supposedly a mastered version of the Super Saiyan God form and was used to fight against Golden Frieza.

It remains uncertain right now if Akira Toriyama would be willing to give Son Goku a new power-up soon. However, if it does end up happening, we can assume that Vegeta would not be far behind in leveling up his game too, especially when considering how the two are shown to be on the same power level most of the time.

Dragon Ball Super manga is available to be read on Viz.
