The game was released back in 2020 and has received “mixed or average” reviews with a Metascore of 73, but it is also appreciated by fans for bringing the story of DBZ in a different but refreshing way.

The game sees players relive the story of Goku and other Z fighters from the manga. There are a total of seven playable characters in the game. The game puts its own spin on the storyline of DBZ to present it as an action RPG and has also been recommended by Akira Toriyama, just ahead of its release.

Toriyama said that the game tells “backstories that haven’t been told in the manga,” adding that “fans will truly be able to take a deep dive into the world.” He also mentioned that players will be experiencing fights that “become more and more unrelenting and fierce” and praised the visuals.

Soon after the release of the game in 2020, the developer brought several DLCs for the game with season passes that offered new content to players. The final chapter of the DLC, called Goku’s Next Journey, was released on February 21, 2024, across platforms and can even be played if players haven’t completed the main story.

The DLC showcases Goku’s last years on Earth. It takes place at the World Martial Arts Tournament, where Goku and the other Z fighters participate. The DLC also introduces Goku’s granddaughter Pan and Uub, the reincarnation of Kid Buu.
