Back in the good old PlayStation 2 days, the Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi series set a new standard for all other video games adapted from anime. The Budokai Tenkaichi titles spanned the entirety of the Dragon Ball Z anime, while also having bits and pieces of the prequel and sequel shows.
With Sparking Zero being the long-overdue fourth installment and set to be the biggest Dragon Ball game yet, there is a lot to unpack from a 2-minute trailer revolving around Goku and Vegeta’s rivalry.
Here are the four details that stand out in showing why Sparking Zero may truly be the ultimate Dragon Ball experience.
Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero Will Have a Huge Roster Spanning Sagas
Although the Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero trailer primarily focuses on Goku and Vegeta, plenty of other characters are featured in it as well, starting off with the former’s childhood friend Krillin. Numerous other Z Fighters also make appearances, ranging from Tien and Yamcha to Gohan in his Super Saiyan form. With the inclusion of Android 18, Cell, and Mr. Satan, the Budokai Tenkaichi sequel seems to have a massive roster that spans the entirety of the anime and all of its sagas.
Even Majin Buu is included in the Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero trailer, which shows that the developers are ensuring that the game completely covers every important saga in the show. That is not all, though, because characters from the Super anime are also included in the roster, something that the OG Budokai Tenkaichi titles obviously did not have. There is also a glimpse of Bardock, Goku’s father, which means that even characters from the movies will be in the game.
The Game Will Feature All the Variations and Transformations of Characters
The Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero trailer shows a few of the many transformations and variations of Goku and Vegeta, which probably means that other characters will get their due forms as well. Goku is seen entering his primary Kaio-ken form, and that is only the beginning as he transforms into Super Saiyan 3 and Super Saiyan God, showcasing that the game will feature plenty of forms for fans to choose from, ranging from DBZ to Super.
Vegeta also comes with his own set of variations, which start from his Scouter days and go all the way to when he turns into his Majin form.
The human forms aside, Vegeta is also seen transforming into his Great Ape form, which is a signature feature of the Saiyans, proving that Sparking Zero is going all out with its faithfulness to the anime and manga. It really could be the biggest Dragon Ball video game yet since it features transformations from Super as well.
Iconic Attacks From Budokai Tenkaichi Make a Blazing Comeback
DragonBall is a franchise that is famous for its iconic powered-up Ki attacks, with Kamehameha being the most popular one. However, Sparking Zero seems to be giving each character their signature moves from the Budokai Tenkaichi games, as the trailer shows Vegeta hitting Goku with Final Flash and Big Bang Attack. From normal Ki Blasts to the Great Ape Vegeta showcasing his own massive attack, the game feels like an authentic trip down memory lane.
The Trailer Respects the Love-Hate Relationship Between Goku and Vegeta
Throughout the anime and manga, one of the standout aspects is the everlasting love-hate relationship between the two main characters, Goku and Vegeta. It starts with pure hate when Vegeta visits Earth in his Scouter form with Nappa and meets Kakarot for the first time, which also gave birth to the hilarious “It’s Over 9000!” meme.
But as the story goes on, the arch rivals become more frenemies as they are faced with life-threatening situations that they have to handle together for the sake of the planet, the universe, or their loved ones.
Judging from the trailer focusing on Goku and Vegeta’s rivalry, it seems that the game will totally respect the relationship that fans of the franchise have adored for a long time.
