Few surprises in the gaming world bring together an entire community in the hopes and expectations of something that pays homage to its roots. Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero plans to do exactly that, and players can’t wait to get their hands on the game.
So far, Budokai Tenkaichi games have had a strong history of including characters in their roster that come directly from different shows, manga, and so on. Dragon Ball’s legacy spans across decades, and fans are aware of how big Sparking Zero can (and will) be.
Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero will likely have more characters and story arcs beyond its base game
The online community has been quite vocal about its expectations. So much so, every other day a post or two makes its way to an ongoing conversation about Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero’s expectations. From the trailer and gameplay screenshots alone, there’s a lot to look forward to.
The roster spans 164 characters, many of which are several variants of iconic characters like Goku and Vegeta. Some of them are honing their ultimate potential, posing the ultimate threat to whoever chooses to go against them.
In the midst of it all, fans like AukusThunder on Reddit are discussing the hows and whys of Sparking Zero roster. Characters who are arriving beyond the base game’s narrative.
The conversation around unlocking and progressing through the vast roster
In fighting games, a big roster indicates the viability of bigger personalities who seemingly have an important role to play in the game’s settings. We’re looking at immaculate voice acting, signature moves, and an origin story/bio of where the character first appeared.
In the Reddit post, the user sheds light on an important aspect of the game:
Do you think it’ll be like BT3 where you have to progress through the game to unlock all characters without DLC, or will we have to unlock some through progressing and the other characters via DLC?
While the Budokai Tenkaichi games were different from each other in the context of character stories and progression, the ‘tournament‘ and events around it brought them closer to one another. Perhaps, Sparking Zero is going to focus a lot on the existing characters in the base roster but also expand on this with DLCs and newer characters.
It’s highly possible that we will see the original/different variants of characters we haven’t seen before, bringing to light new challenges and ways of unlocking them. Even if the devs decide to turn to a live-service model, the roster shows a lot of promise for new content that’s true to its source material.
All in all, the roster may just be ever-evolving, and we’re just waiting for devs to speak out on it. What are your thoughts on Sparking Zero’s roster? Let us know in the comments below.
