Drew Barrymore & Hugh Grant have worked together in the 2017 film Music and Lyrics. The film was helmed by director Marc Lawrence and falls under the genre of Romantic/Musical. Even though they worked on only one film together, the two developed a good friendship. Recently, Grant was invited for an interview and he didn’t leave an opportunity to roast his Music & Lyrics co-actor.
The Gentleman actor made fun of Barrymore’s singing capabilities openly. He compared her vocals to dogs by saying “barking dogs have better vocalizations”. But looks like Barrymore didn’t take offense and has taken the criticism sportingly. She did a Way Back to Love performance from their film on her show and gave a befitting answer to Hugh Grant.
Drew Barrymore Defends Friend Hugh Grant
The Blended actress is aware of the fact that Grant commented on her vocal skills in a fun way. That’s the reason she didn’t feel insulted by him. She knows that he didn’t mean to hurt her in any way. The actress said that it’s Grant’s way of expressing his love.
“If you know Hugh, that is his way of loving you. I swear, if you know Hugh, like, that is his way of loving you. I swear, okay, so it’s funny, too, because there’s this thing going around with him and Ashley Graham on the red carpet, and people are like, he’s such a curmudgeon and she’s so thrown.”
Further, she also explained how Grant has this grumpy personality when people expect him to be something else. She clarified that he wasn’t being negative, and said what he said in a comedic way.
“No, that is Hugh Grant. You think you’re getting this charming movie star and what you really get is grumpy Hugh and then you fall in love with grumpy Hugh. When he says that, I’m telling you, he is being absolutely funny, he doesn’t mean one negative thing about it.”
It’s always good to see such friendships in Hollywood where the actors understand each other so well. Instead of saying any negative comments about her friend, Barrymore defended Hugh Grant in the best way possible.
